He's not wrong though, is he? TBH, I'm far less of a fan of players deliberately injurying fellow pros who are outplaying them.

I remember the challenge he made on Bale that seriously injured him against Blackpool a couple of years ago, if this one is at all similar it's hardly surprising he's pissed, especially with this being a pre-season friendly

Gareth Bale doesn't play in the Olympics because he said he was injured, and instead gets injured playing in a game played while the Olympics are going on.
It's almost ironic.

Bit harsh on Bale - he was desperate to play in the Olympics. He happily said so and promoted the team, even against the Welsh FA's requests.
Also Adam clearly tried to injure him. Hardly a media whore is he. |

Whether he wanted to play or promoted it or not. Fact remains he is not in the Olympic team represent Great Britain because he was injured but fit enough to play for Spurs in the same timeframe. That stinks. |

Mmmmm. I understand, but I also know he publicised HIMSELF a lot during that time as well by getting himself on all the posters and being seen as a "Pro Olympics" guy. It's hard to move away from the so called bottom-line that ultimately he declared as unfit and was playing by the time the Olympics started.

If he was declared unfit at the time of selection but since then has recovered to play a pre-season friendly, I'm not sure he can be blamed. He was clearly keen to play but time was not on his side. As it is, Adam appears to have a grudge against him. Had it been against someone like Ronaldo or Drogba, I could understand it once, but not twice. There are people in pubs all over the country who would pay to give them a kick up in the air for their theatrics, but Bale is not on the same level.
I should underline that I don't want to see these sorts of tackles, but I appreciate the frustration that people feel towards divers, which is why I say I understand it. |

That's why I referred to it as the "bottom-line" above. People will hear too many "if's" about your comment and you know.....people like to see the worst in people! Most will (unfortunately or not) see the bottom line of him playing by the time the Olympics started. As for the training, he must have trained for at least a week/two weeks prior to being played. Tottenham wouldn't have just sent him out to play without that amount of training behind him

Fair point! Whose call was it to declare him unfit? I thought it was the Team GB physio team but I don't know for certain. |

I don't know eiher. I think people were irked that it seemed to happen virtually the same day that he signed a big new deal at Spurs....."okay you can have this deal and this money but no Olympics!?"

Then, again, it's hardly his fault, is it? If your boss offered you a massive rise and a longer contract and the condition was that you had to give up something you weren't certain of getting anyway, you'd do it. Especially if, as in football, you're a long time retired.
There's no question it's ironic but he hasn't done wrong and to call it karma is wrong. Billyd is right that he promoted the Olympics against the bizarre wishes of the WFA. To suggest that 1. he did it to promote himself and 2. Spurs would have got him to train for weeks before a pre-season friendly is a far bigger and less credible assumption than that he had an injury which cleared up so Spurs, with an eye to the new season, gave him a run. I can't believe I'm being forced to defend a Tossingham player but some of these comments are well offside. A player was injured, his future earnings compromised by the sort of tackle that would make Wise or Keane proud and you're hating the victim.

Perhaps he was trying his ankle out too soon. It happens.

If this isn't karma then it's poetic justice. Hang on, that's the same thing, innit? Whatever it is, it's brilliant. BTW, the WFA were proved to be justified in their fears about the Olympics. Making Giggs GB captain after retiring from international football at about 19. No Welsh players in the women's squad despite Jess Fishlock being universally considered a certain starter.
