Good luck mate (and everyone else) remember it was one of the longest nights of my life waiting for my results. Also one of the best when I realized I had got into uni. Sure all will be fine.

Very true. Although I got in at the time they seem so important and as time goes on you realize everything happens for a reason. Uni and good grades are far from the be all and end all.

We don't know what my daughter got but the ucas site says her place at leeds is confirmed so a great relief for everyone in our house and plenty of joy. The past few days were very hard for her.

Good luck to everyone else today!!!!!!! I bollocksed mine up twice and survived but that was when the exams were harder Got my son's gcse results next week.

Girlfriend from Bristol got into London Southbank to do Occupational Therapy, waiting to hear on her grades. fantastic new as long distance relationship has been hard and after 3 years now she will be moving into mine. cannot wait!!!!

Still remember my A-Level results day (1999) really clearly. I got absolutely battered the night before and turned up to school an hour before the results went up. My school put them all on a board by subject so you had 100 kids crowding round a small notice board trying to find all their results.

I was still a bit drunk and sat in the middle of the quad eating chocolate and smoking. Didn't get what I wanted but still managed to get into my university of choice and have done ok since.

Good luck everyone and remember that while they are important, these results are not the be all and end all and you can still pursue the life and career you want even if you didn't quite get the grades you were expecting/hoping for.

Just got my results, got into Bedfordshire to study psychology! Can now get my student season ticket. Going to try and get to every league home game this year, I've never done that before.

Posted something about this on Twitter.

Education is hugely important. Everyone has a right to an education, and everyone should take the opportunity. It stands you well in life.

However, it's not the be all and end all if you fail. I got good GCSE's, flunked my A-levels badly, did a course at Uni that I hated, and ultimately felt like I'd wasted a few years of my life. Spent 6 or 7 years doing jobs I didn't enjoy, before finally setting up a business.

Good luck to all getting their results today, and congratulations. Don't be down if you don't get what you want. Maybe take a year out to evaluate things. If you do go to Uni, make sure it's to do something that will set you up career wise. I loved my time at Uni, but hated the course and haven't used it once since.

Never happened in our day at carshalton boys as no one managed an
O-level let alone an- A level.
Seriously though to much is made of this day and it puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on the kids .

I remember when I got mine, 11 years ago, we were knocking on the front door of the pub to get in 10.45am after I realised I had done well 2 which I was predicted to fail and fecked up 2 I had been predicted to do well in.

For those who miss their grades, Uni is good but I didnt go and have ended up at a good company earning decent money with career opportunities. It is not the be all and end all.
