The great British Kebab debate
Whilst in Angel on Friday to indulge in some pie and mash a friend of mine who turned his nose up at the prospect of a meat pie (I know, what a nutter) plumped for a chicken kebab that was promptly served up in a wrap.
Back in South London and visiting my parents, my old man decides to buy himself and me a extra large doner to soften the blow of him having to return to work on the Monday. It was while I was standing in the Selsdon Kebab centre watching one of the lovely gents who run the place pile huge amounts of Lamb extract into a pitta bread that I wondered. Wrap or Pitta? Which is better?

Wrapped in a naan bread up this way in Rusholme. All the salad minus tomato, chilli sauce, mango chutney and sweet corn relish. Devine.

I feel that a wrap although delish in its own way does not quite allow the same catastrophic amount of meat as a pitta.

I think a wrap is too tidy. A kebab is not a kebab unless you can drunkenly smear it all over your hands and face and wake up the next morning stinking like a greasy greco-roman wrestlers armpit. Pitta ftw.

I go both ways, but I now need to decide....
I love the Golden Grill in Hove for the Pitta based kebab, with a lovely salad and rice to accompany. However, the experience of the old Kambi's wrap, (hummus smeared wrap, stuffed with bbq'd chicken and salad, packed so tightly that it looked like a sausage, but weighed like a car battery and exploded on your plate into a huge mass of meat, salad and bread) was a joy to behold. On balance the I will go for the wrap. Seems Kambis is open again. Will sample and let the BBS know if it's still good.

Pitta, it's a lovely treat at the end of the meal once all the grease/chilli sauce has made its way through.

You sure you mean that? I make your kebab a meat free nan bread with a bit of lettuce, onion, possibly some red cabbage and a pickled leprechaun's dick. Hardly Devine. ![]()
