The Loan System
Many people have berated the loan system as a way for rich/big clubs to stockpile players. Well, Chelsea have loaned out 18, yes EIGHTEEN, players this summer.

That's disgusting and it's only going to get worse with the EPPP making it easier to acquire younger players at less risk.
I remember Coppell attacking the loan system a while ago. When he gets irritated at something you know it must be bad.

There are obvious merits to the loan system, when viewed as one loan.
A classic example is Derry to us under Warnock. Out of the picture at Leeds, needed games, we needed a player to come in and take the game by the scruff of the neck. It suits everyone, and stops players picking up wages for nothing. The problem is that the system is being abused by powerful clubs, how do they stop it?

Probably one of the most depressing things in modern football and one of the biggest reasons England are much poorer at international level since the mid-90s.
The reserves of the big clubs are better than a lot of first teams at the lower end of the prem and the championship. |

18! Thats utterly rediculous!
If this is the case, then how many players player must Chelsea hold the registrations of? And then how much must their wage bill be because although they have loaned out all those players, I'd be surprised if they weren't still contributing a proportion of their wages? The mind boggles! No wonder football clubs are strictly billionaires play-things. ![]()

The fact that it benefited us on that one occasion does not constitute an "obvious merit to the loan system." Loans should be restricted to emergencies. If a club has no fit goalkeepers or a player in another specialist postion then maybe but I'd restrict it to players from clubs in a lower division. Otherwise, stick a youth player in. It's rubbish, this endless conveyor belt of failed Premiership players that turn up for a couple of months or a season at best and then bugger off. We've had the same player playing for 3 different clubs in one season; it's fundamentally unfair. Sunday League and Pub teams don't allow it because it's so obviously unfair. If Premiership teams can't guarantee their new signings first team football, don't bloody sign them. It's just a matter of time before we're condemned by a goal from some mercenary on-loan to a club in our league and then I think people will change their tune. What serious benefit did Egan, Dumbuya, Keinan or Davies bring to our club last season? All they did was deny youth players valuable first team experience; I refuse to believe that we would have been any worse off without them. We'd have probably got by without McGivern, Tunchev and Ramage too. In fact, how many bloody loan players did we have last season? There must be a limit surely? There was McShane and Martin too; that's 9. I don't feel the slightest empathy with these people. I hate it. |

Unless a loan is to bridge a player at a club until the first day of transfer window, they shouldn't be allowed. Simple as
