Anyone Fast for Health or Dieting Reasons?
Tried it for the first time on Thursday as a friend had mentioned it and I was directed to this programme.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfna7nV7WaM Main reason for trying it was the health benefits but it may also help with weight loss. As it was my first time I took in 650 calories for the day and just did 1 day with no hard exercise. It was slightly easier than expected but I did feel quite good and slightly sharper than usual (not difficult). The surprising thing was that I didn't require an extra large breakfast the next morning and felt no side effects. Have you tried it and how did you find it?

Very informative,thanks for the link
i've tried 2 days a couple of times before but i also might have a go at the 5-2 that the presenter tried at the end doesn't seem too drastic.

I'm slowly working my way to 2 fasting days a week. The Horizon program seems to suggest that it has some worthwile benefits and I thought it was worth a go. I tried going to the gym and then having my one meal on that day afterwards, around 2.30 and that was ok.

In the last two years I have fasted for 2 days, and one day a couple of times.
I found it hard. I have also had days when I said I would fast and have caved in. Basically I need to be mentally prepared and calm. Fasting and reflection actually go well together. I would like to try a week in a peaceful environment, most say food pangs disappear after 3 days. I would like to regularly not eat after a late Sunday afternoon meal until the following tuesday morning. I definitely need to shift flab! It is also good for people to understand hunger.

Good luck with that. I will give the one day fast a few more tries before I go for the 2 day one. Like you I want to try to integrate my exercise[usually running] into the fast so will probably try that first before I do the 2 day fast.

My scales are saying 10st-something for the first time in 30 years and the only thing that works for me is fasting. My family tell me off about it but horses for courses and all that.

5 - 2 WORKS FOR ME .....
5 - 2 just started ...It makes sense and there IS a "feel good" factor. M & S do excellent low calory food. For example I recommend their Prawn Dim Sum in a Thai spiced coconut broth (305 calories). Brilliant last night - 3 minutes in microwave - the real thing. I also find that on "normal" (5) days there is less desire to stuff. I shall definitely persevere. Aim to lose a stone. Good result with Palace Under 18s in Liverpool this morning. 3 - 0 down - final score 3 - 3. Negative tactics ? Not with this lot !!! |

Have they seen the Horizon programme? It seems to go against most of which we are taught but is much more in tune with the way humans used to eat 1,000's of years ago which included long periods without food until it became available. Consequently our bodies have adapted to it. So the strange thing is that it's actually good for your body and metabolism. Well done on getting down to 10 stones.

No AJ - there wasn't a lot of me to start with - I'd fade away. Up to two days at a time is about my limit.

I feel much, much better for it. I wouldn't say I've got boundless energy but the lethargy I often felt when I was a weeble has gone.

Gonna get on this shit for next week. Been recommended to fast two days a week to start and then progress onto three once I'm used to it. Isn't it something like 350 calories on a fasting day?

Have been thinking about trying this for a while and have been reading into the science behind it. Very interesting.
Going to start tomorrow, and then after that will be limiting myself to 500 calories on Sundays/Wednesdays. Will keep people updated on how it goes. I hate dieting as I love bad food but since finishing uni and starting an office job I've put on almost a couple of stone. Gutted. |
