Speeding up my laptop
What steps can I take to speed this thing up. It's not massively sluggish but could do with a kick up the backside.

1. Increase RAM
2. Get an SSD.
3. Work out what junk programmes are slowing down your computer (someone who understands computers will be better able to explain that).

No, it's not painfully slow but starting to think that somethings that are booting up at startup are not needed. Just going through the programs list at the moment and uninstalling a load of stuff.

Where do I go to delete all the internet temp files and also the CPU temp files?

The battery on this thing is knackered so have to keep it plugged in while it's on but every now and then it just decides to switch off for no reason. Any ideas?

Just freed up over 8gb with the disk cleanup....wow! It's amazing how much shit gets left behind just by general usage.

On one hand I'm kind of hoping this thing does die sometime soon so I can justify getting an iPad 3, but on the other hand I'd rather save the money as this thing is only about 3 years old.

you might want to go through and uninstall all the programmes you don't use anymore.

another reason for slow boot ups is too many things scrabbling for resources during that period. Autoruns allows you to skim a lot of the stuff out....

failing all that a rebuild of the total system every 6-9 months is considered best practice with most IT pros. if you have a laptop it probably comes with a restore partition, accessible through either POST (sometimes accessed by combination key press during power on) or from an applicaton installed by the manufacturer within windows itself.

if your machine is overheating and powering down, maybe it needs the dust blowing out of it, you can get "airdusters" to loosen it by blowing through the cpu exhaust vent or any other vent...if you're brave enough and trust your skills with screwdriver, etc you could take the case apart and hoover that mother....

Adding spyware traps, clenn away all rubish filels and defrag. Then you need to repair disc errors by runing error check utility. Also, then you wil need to upgrade operating system. That's posible, you don't have to upgrade.
