Am here currently in Shenzhen. How scary. Big protests. Think Mayday, but bigger.

It must rile the Chinese that the Japanese have never apologised or paid compensation for killing millions and nearly destroying China between 1933 and 1945. However this is not the way to protest and they should use the UN , where they know the rules as they have proved when being very good at interfering in other disputes like Syria.

I agree. Tbh, I think the Japanese have kind of rubbed the Chinese's noses in it too by blatantly doing what they did.

Trouble is, look at the map, and you could agree with China and Taiwan, but then, where does that leave us and the Falklands?

There was an anti China protest in Tokyo on saturday, only 70 people turned up.....so it really is the Palace/Charlton version of an international rivally.

Lots of things happening in China at the moment, the middle class is getting annoyed with the CCP as their economy slows, next months congress where a lot of the old guard are retiring and new ones coming up has been postponed and Xi the expected successor to the pro military Hu has disappeared for the last few weeks (though think he might have made a public appearence today.)

Either way trouble afoot in the middle kingdom and whipping up anger against a hated historic foe would be good way to distract attention from it. TBF some of Japan's aging nationalistic political elite haven't covered themselves in glory over this either.

Most of Asia still remembers the Japanese for the war and the horrible things they did. Not many countries like them.

When I was in Tokyo for the World Cup I was supporting Korea Rep. vs Italy and the two Japanese girls we were drinking with said if we continued they would leave. We carried on and they left. I did get the impression that the Koreans and Japanese aren't the best of friends either and that was pretty strong both ways.

I suppose going through countries, raping them, beheading them and placing their heads on spears over bridges and running swords through babies is not the best way to make friends.

Thankfully the Japanese seem a much nicer race these days. I love the country and people and hope to spend more time there one day.
