Two police officers killed in Tameside
"Two female police officers have died during an operation which led to the arrest of a man wanted by Greater Manchester Police.

Police said both unarmed officers suffered fatal injuries during a "routine operation" in Hattersley, Tameside."

RIP a real shame, makes you think though the guy that did it will almost certainly never be released from prison, whereas PC Harwood who murdered Ian Tomlinson in cold blood got off completely free. No justice.

I was thinking just yesterday how the Hillsborough affair taints the police. Every time you hear it reported you hear someone describing "the police cover up" like they were all responsible. This tragedy illustrates how much we need the police and how much we take them for granted. These women were doing their job and have lost their lives as a result. Let that have as much coverage on TV as police wrong doing.

Rather inflammatory post really. I am not justifying Hardwood's actions he should have gone down but you cannot compare it to 2 police woman shot by a murderer who was on the run from killing two other people. This is not a thread to be having a dig at the police.

Grow up and have some respect for two women doing their job on an ordinary day like they would have done week in week out and getting shot dead for it.

Terrible day for their families and colleagues. Like every big organisation the police have some wrong uns who abuse their power but they are the tiny minority and most are just like these two young women, doing a job they love to protect all of us from people like Dale Cregan.
