When I checked last night you could still get a return for £26 as follows:

Out
Virgin Trains (via Megatrain.com website) to Birmingham New Street £7
Catch a different train from Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton £4

Back
Virgin Trains 2245 straight through £15

Total £26

Just involves one extra change, booking on two different sites, and arriving into Birmingham quite early - still you could wonder around the Selfridges for a bit and wonder what you could afford if you didnt support Palace.
