From the training ground with Palace Radio - pre Burnley
Dougie admitted there 'might be a few changes for saturday'.
Well let's give you the bad news - Wilf came off with a tight hamstring on tuesday night and has been in the treatment room for the last couple of days. If he's not right he won't be risked on saturday against Burnley. Reading between the lines it looks like he's 50/50 to start the game. KG missed out on tuesday having picked up a groin strain in the Bolton game and is doubtful again for saturday. Ramage just missed out on tuesday through injury, which is why he was on the bench, but could be available to start. Despite some pretty hefty challenges on tuesday night Jonny Williams is ok for Burnley A full assessment and decision on who will be in the 18 will be made tomorrow. Dougie said that he always had the belief that they would turn it around following those three defeats at the start of the season. He particularly praised Jules who he said had 'turned it around (after the mistake against Watford) and was now playing at the very highest level'. We had a very interesting conversation (after the interview) about tactics, but I won't repeat it on here. Suffice it to say I sensed he knows exactly what he wants and expects from his players and the direction the club is going A question was raised afterwards (not by me) about Nigel Reo-Coker. Dougie said he was not interested in signing him, and he thought KG, Mile & Owen were playing 'top stuff' in that central midfield position and he was not looking to strengthen there at this point in time. Don't forget it's the Family Day on saturday - 'Kids for a Quid' - but they must be purchased before the day of the game. Let's try and fill Selhurst up. It should be a great atmosphere with the team playing so well at the moment. Dougie, I can assure you, is not underestimating Burnley who he recognised were quite a threat going forward. Full interview on Palace Radio 1278am at 12-30pm on saturday and at other times leading up to kick off, plus later 'Scroatey' will post up a link so you can listen before then.

The thought of not having Zaha makes me a lot less confident.

Our team sans Zaha is still pretty strong, and more than a match for Burnley. We'd miss him badly though. Maybe he can play Saturday and then enjoy a 2 week break?

Lets not panic people. I'd rather have a fully fit Zaha start than a less than 100% Zaha. I think Williams would retain his place if Wilf is out and I expect to see Moritz start where Williams did against Wolves (I'm assuming that was just behind Murray?). Williams and Bolasie on the wings will be fine.
I wouldn't bring Ramage in as, bar Delaneys mistake on Tuesday, him and Blake have looked pretty solid. Especially considering they were up against two recently relegated teams.

If Zaha is not fit we should play Williams, Bolasie and Moritz. I think we should rest Zaha for this one to be honest. 2 week break swings it. Especially as it's Millwall.
Perhaps have Wilf on the bench?

If the hamstring is tight Zaha shouldn't be risked. Save him for Millwall the following week and then pull him from the engerland pups squad as a precaution.
I will want to stab Stuart Pearce if Zaha pulls his hamstring playing for them.

One more booking and he's going to get a break anyway Let's all hope his hamstring strain isn't too bad because he's magic at the moment

While I would be inclined to give him a break we are about to have our biggest crowd of the season.
A lot of people will be disappointed without Zaha. He's the player who could attract new fans to come again and again.

No two week break if he's fit - there are the two Under 21 matches he could well play in. |

I see your point. But the safeguarding of the player must be paramount.
Get Bolasie to put white tape on his wrists and try and bluff it.

If Zaha does play and tweaks his hamstring further, perhaps a cheeky handball for a booking might be in order before his comes off.

He won't be getting a break as he is in the England U21 squad. Or does Dougie do a Fergie and play him and then say he is injured (and so Wilf gets his 2 week break).

Means Moritz is highly likely to start, I'm not that concerned.
Pretty cool situation to be in really, having a Brazilian to step in when one of the star men is injured ![]()

Well publicised tight hamstring, late fitness test, starts the game, taken off second half, removed from U21s as he has agrivated this hamstring and a 2 week break.
Cynical? |

You do wonder don't you but I don't think thats Dougies style, I get the impression he wants our players to play internationals as part of their development.

Bit of a worry that no Zaha or KG potentially but others can step up

He has an obligation to his employer to do the best job he can for them, Zaha's development and value would be increased more by Premiership football than 2 U21 games. We are flying in the league and could be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. |
