Ireland v Germany
I will be watching tonights match in the same place where I watched the Ireland v Spain match in the Euros; from behind the sofa*.
Unavailable for Ireland tonight are: Dunne, St Ledger, Whelan, McClean, Doyle & Keane. Given and Duff have retired. Starting team looks to be: Westwood Ward (still having nightmares about Zaha) O'Dea O'Shea Coleman McGeady Andrews McCarthy Fahey Cox Walters No room for Paddy McCarthy, Delaney, Garvan or Scannell. Long is on the bench. If we can keep it below double figures it will be a job well done. Trap O'Toni has said: "We must do what we can to contain them." With players like Muller, Ozil, Klose, Gomez, Goetze & Podolski, might I suggest locking them in their dressing room? (*Which is in the Blythe Hill Tavern)

When you look at some of the mismatches in tonight's game I think it could get very messy. Muller v Ward, Klose v O'Dea, any of their midfielders against ours.
I think Trap should be picking Wilson at left back, Clark at centre back, Long up front, and either Walters or Brady instead of Cox on the wing, but even with our full team out Germany would still be far too strong for us. Their midfield is excellent and almost as strong as Spain's. Still wish I was in Dublin for the game though. The Germans were great in Stuttgart in our Euro qualifier in 2006. Have a good night in the Blythe Jim. Get Terry and Con to fire the pints in at regular intervals to help numb the pain. |

I love that little boozer! I used to live in the end one of those little cottages just beyond the sign shop. In other news: we're going to get right royally bummed by the fritz. Shall be watching, no doubt through my fingers, on some hooky interweb stream... ![]()

But don’t hurl out the pints too quick so that I am unable to drag my sorry behind around the pitch for our match tomorrow, you mean? Agree that Long should start as the lone striker. I am a fan of Walters, mostly for his dogged work rate and bottle, but he is limited as a footballer on the international stage. Either way it’s going to be hard night I reckon. 1-0 to Ireland. ![]()

Picking who you want to win in an Ireland V Germany game is like choosing which animals turd you would rather step in.

Cottages? Be God it is far from cottages you were raised. Errr... The Blythe is the best pub in South London. Just don't tell anyone. And yes, a slaughter is on the cards. In the nicest possible way I pray that your stream buffers big style when the Germans get the smell of blood in their nostrils.

Scro, it will actually be strange watching a game and not wanting Ze Germans to win. I've very fond memories of Andy Moeller goosestepping around Wembley in Euro 96 after ensuring that football wasn't actually coming home, and of Gareth Barry trying to catch Mezut Ozil as he set up Germany's 4th goal in South Africa in 2010.
Jim is right, the Blythe is the best pub in South London, a place that I first introduced him to in 2007 for the San Marino away game, where we embarrassed ourselves celebrating Stephen Ireland's last minute winner. And yes, don't get too drunk as I need you to do my running for me tomorrow afternoon. |

Ah, those heady days when Stephen Stephen got us out of jail. And don't worry about the running for you tomorrow. Cogan can do it for us both (believe it or not he's at Wemberlee tonight).

That's a very good point. I hope someone mentions it before kick off and reminds them of the clandestine U Boat refuelling that took place in the fjord of Killary Harbour back in the day. They'll probably still crush us, but Angela Merkel will be sure to be the first to sign the book of condolence.
