Anfield November 2nd 1991
Liverpool 1 - 2 Crystal Palace
Goals from Marco Gabbiadini + Geoff Thomas secured a memorable win for Palace only 2 years after that other game up at Anfield.. Few things I remember Funny Hat Day Palace support that day was immense - never stopped singing + sung Gabbiadini non stop for 10 minutes.. Was a truly brilliant day.. Anyone got any pics?

Was I with you? Or did I not know you then?
Brazilian/hat day. Tons of Sombrero's. There was some big Rugby game going on at the same time from memory. Was it the World Cup, here?

Again a day where the scousers showed they live nothing better than a bit of rock throwing at the buses taking us back to Lime Street. Great day and sadly probably the last highlight of that season. |

I was at Manchester Uni, and played left-back for a uni team alongside a koppite who played centre back. We went to the game together and looked at the Shankly Gates, Hillsborough memorial etc.
If I remember we went one-nil down to Glen Hysen scoring a header, and then Thomas and Gabbiadini scored. All goals were scored at the Kop end. It was also the day of the Rugby World Cup final between England and Australia IIRC

Brilliant day out. Flabbiodini actually looked like a brilliant player so I must have been pissed. Atmosphere was amazing, think I travelled up in the minibus with Wiz driving as usual. Still got a picture on my wall with us all in sombrero's and the floor was literaly bouncing in the pub before the game .
One of my favourite away games |

I still have the ticket stub. Actually I still have the facking ticket as I woke up that morning with a serious bout of gastroenteritus and spent the day chucking up. When I heard we won I was even sicker!
I was however fit and well for the 0-5 League Cup semi defeat, despite having to get Ward leave from hospital to be allowed to go. Unsuprisingly, I was discharged the following day. (Was also there for the last minute defeat in Nov 04, a Barros hat trick! Barros FFS!!)

It was a brilliant day, one of the best ever. Only got a few pics (not digital)....these are photos of photos (if you get my drift) ![]() Me at the Anfield gates (the previous 2 seasons had been night games) Notice the Palace fans in 80s Ski hats and sombreros ![]() ![]() The balloons were a tradition at any decent away game back then. There were yellow and green ones because the kit was like Brazil's ![]() Gareth Southgate's signed matchworn shirt from the game ![]()

Nice pics DE. A cracking result after what had been a tough couple of weeks for the club. Wrights departure, followed by Salako’s injury. Gabbiadini’s work rate during the game was tireless. Support was simply superb. Geoff Thomas bandaged hand and all burying all the memories of the 9-0 in front of the cop in the Brazilian yellow which IMHO still ranks as one of our best kits.
Two weeks later we went to Forest (who were often one of our bogey teams at the time) and were turned over 5-1 with a Sheringham hatrick compounding matters. 1991/92 - An average season, which should have provided so much more. To finish 10th in the Premier league now wouldn't be sniffed at, but the team was destroyed that year and money badly invested. |

Great day out even though the mini bus wind wipers wouldn't work in the pissing rain on the way back. Managed to pull in to a petrol station and had great fun playing rugby with a mini world cup ball that the station was handing out free. AA turned up a little while later, tightened wiper nuts in 30 seconds and explained that scouse fans do this to away mini buses every week. oh how we laughed.

On the caoch heading out of Liverpool, stuck in traffic we listened intently to the call in radio show. Call after call Scousers complained about Gary Abblet, he was getting slautered. This went on for at least half an hour, "Gary F'in Abblet, that Gary Abblet is rubbish, Abblet is a discrace to Liverpool"....and so it carried on. Then the next caller was put through......a thick South London accented fellow proclaimed that Gary Abblet had a brilliant game!
Well, the whole bloody coach totally lost it, the radio host got a charge out of it too. He did make some comment about a Cockney with a new-fangled mobile phone! |

Great day out. The Palace support was immense. We got the coach up and I remember that after the game when we got back to the coaches a scouser asked my mate if he could have his scarf and when he refused he went mad and aimed a flying kick at him but missed and kicked the bus! Cue huge chants of who are yer from the bus! Great times!!!

Was there wearing a ridiculous 'mother of the bride' hat complete with veil, has to be one of Palace's greatest ever away days. Remember looking for a pub in Liverpool to show the end of the rugby but the football definitely made up for the England loss.
