KG AFCON Thread
Ok so I figured that this will eventually be started and seeing as South Africa are currently playing Norway in a friendly it would be the ideal time to start it. For anyone thats interested in watching there are a few streams here, there are probably some others on other sites too. If nothing else it's interesting to learn how to actually pronounce his name.
To view the link you have to Register or Login As for the cup itself South Africa look to have a mixed group, the favourites to come through IMO would probably be Morocco and Angola (I must admit know nothing of Cape Verde), but unfortunantly for us home advantage could count in South Africa's favour and we could lose KG for a bit longer. At best we could get him back after their final group game on the 27th, I do worry that if he were to go out that early he may not come back as mentally strong as he has been for the majority of the season. The South Africa fixtures are below, they also have a friendly this Saturday: 19/01/13: South Africa v Cape Verde (1600 in Johannesburg), Angola v Morocco (1900 in Johannesburg) 23/01/13: South Africa v Angola (1500), Morocco v Cape Verde (1800) 27/01/13: South Africa v Morocco (1700), Cape Verde v Angola (1700 in Port Elizabeth) |

South Africa were rubbish at WC2010 so I'm hoping they'll be rubbish here too.

Oh bugger. Why does he have to go so early, when the games don't even start until 19th?

Cheers Ryan. KG just made a couple of important challenges. One commentator saying Dee-Kaj-wa, the other Dee-kat-cha.

Norway have just gone one nil up for those not watching, South Africa look decent going forward but looked absolutely awful for the goal. KG is playing similarly to the way he would at Palace, but if I were them I'd play him deeper and let him support the defence. |

KG subbed after 70.minutes..decent game from him.

The quality of Norway has fallen greater than that of England in recent years, a 1-0 defeat for SA may signal that SA won't get out of the group stages.

They were the home nation and besides a decent hour against Mexico, I thought they were poor.

Reading interviews and snippets, he clearly takes a lot of pride in representing his country, especially in the AFC.
I want him back as soon as possible like everyone else, but he's one of our own and for his sake hope that they go and win the thing, even though it'll obviously mean a few more missed games for us. I certainly won't be willing the other teams to beat SA. |

KG just went for a spectacular overhead kick... and missed the ball.
His 50th start today. Interesting to hear the correct pronunciation of his name by the South African commentator.

IH would probably be better off, not counting on him and arranging decent cover. |
