Palace facts you absolutely love.

Welcome to the shortest thread in history!

Well ok, look, I I want to put on record my absolute passion for the fact that it was us wot stopped the mighty Arsenal winning the treble in 1970/71. This was the year of thefirst FA Cup final I ever saw and actually. I think that season I saw us lose 0-2 to them too thanks to my Spurs supporting grandad agreeing to take me along. Basically at that time (in my little head) Arsenal were almighty and it was impossible to think we could have beaten them. But we did, knocking them out of the League Cup. On their own patch too (replay). This was their team:

Wilson,Rice,McNab,Kelly,McLintock,Roberts,Armstron g,Storey,Radford,Kennedy, Graham.

Hardly makeshift was it? I was only 7 and I didn't know at the time that we beat them in the League Cup. I didn't know for many years later. Anyone here remember it at the time or go to Highbury? Was much made of it at the time or was it "just the League Cup". All that sort of thing.

One of the facts I love most about Palace is that we were the first British team to win on Italian soil.

We were totally hammered that night with wave after wave of attacks from Arsenal who spent most of the game in our half. We scored on the break in the first half I think it was Tambling might be wrong. Then in the second a long ball was pumped forward and caught by Wilson, Queen was in their pentaly area as the ball was cleared by Wilson and for some reason John Roberts laid a punch on him and we got a penalty the ball was in our half at the time. It was one of the most one sided games I had seen I would guess we spent less than 5 minutes in their half if that.

That Crystal Palace played in the first FA Cup competition in 1871 and got to the Semi's!!

(Ok it was not the modern club we now know, but still think we should claim the old club as others have)

Just a shame that it was a global 4th tier record till Rangers broke it a couple of years ago.

This is quite amazing in modern times as a record, probably not the best achievement in our history, but as a current one its pretty astounding. If we ever get to another in the near future it will definately be a psychological advantage. I also like being the first english club to win on italian soil, thats a real doozy..

The current record consecutive goalscorer in champions league history plays for Crystal Palace (Marouanne Chamakh)

It's a nice stat to use to wind up the super sunday sky supporters based in Croydon and South London anyway.

That we went out to Blackpool in a 2nd Replay in the first round of the first FA Cup we entered in Jan 06. It took us 97 years to record an Away 3rd Round Victory (not replays) against league opposition....at Blackpool!

Great stat but even better we played Hitchin in the first round drew 0-0 and both sides went through, and in the quarters we played Wanderers drew 0-0 and both sides went through to the semi final.... dont think they had the hang of how to work out the draw in those days.
By the way it was a different game in those days from Wiki a report on the final
The final took place at Kennington Oval between Wanderers and Royal Engineers. The Engineers were leading exponents of the tactic of passing the ball, which at the time was known as the "Combination Game" and considered extremely innovative at a time when most teams relied solely on dribbling. Despite this, Wanderers dominated the game and won 1–0 with a goal from Morton Betts. For unclear reasons, Betts played in the final under the pseudonym "A.H. Chequer", derived from his membership of the Harrow Chequers club.
