Sorry but let me correct you..... Zaha's last two goals for palace were against them

On top of that.... Not sure about this but I would speculate, Zaha's only ever headed goal (maybe only ever header) was against them too!!!

I think we have countered the highest points by having the lowest points and avoiding relagation back in 69/70. Might be wrong but certainly was one of the lowest points total without relegation. 27 points two points for a win those days , six wins all season so if 3 points for a win and remember it was a 42 game season 33 points.

We were the last team to field a side entirely comprised of Englishmen in an FA Cup final (including substitutes and manager)

Despite Stern John's five-minute cameo of near-disaster in 2010.

When he returned after a long lay off I think Big Mal played him at left back. Ironical it was his ex team mate Tommy Smith who broke his leg.

Oh cool, this conversation again.

Basically, Exactly what Milky says. Unless you want to define every Palace players' career on a selected 5 minute spell?

How much history could we re-write with this? Marco Gabbiadini was one of the greatest players in Palace history after scoring the winner at Anfield. Julian Speroni one of the worst because of his error against Everton.

To judge any player on one moment is understandable when they did little else of note but Stern John scored absolutely vital goals against Watford and Derby. He should be remembered for these.

Understood - but do not forget the unique importance and significance of those last five minutes at Hillsborough. Speroni's clanger, for example, was nowhere near as critical in the grand scheme of things. We were five minutes from (potentially) going out of existence - and SJ didn't bother to track back with Wednesday's centre half. As for not squaring to Ambrose...

He may have scored twice, but his second was definately his last goal for palace.

Palace have only ever had one official Cup Tie in UEFA competetions (unless you count the Anglo-Italian Cup of the early 1970's (which oddly enough only featured English and Italian teams!) - which was the 1998 Intertoto Cup against Samsunspor of Turkey.

Not only did Palace not actually qualify for the tournament (we got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 1997/98 season and no PL side wanted to take up the spot - so we got it by default!) - if you study a map of the World, Samsun, although firmly in Turkey, is actually on the Asian side of the Black Sea - so not actually in Europe.

Our only ever competitive match in 'Europe' was gainst Asian opposition!

Unfortunately, I think Middlesbrough went one better in 1997 - and finished in the last 2 of all 3 competitions.

No they didn't. One of them has to be the league and they were relegated from the league the season they made the finals i think.

Equally not sure if the claimed fact is correct either as i am not sure when Palace have been in the top 4 in 3 competitions. We made the semis of both cups in '95 but got relegated so the detail of that cliam would be interesting.

We were in the last four so the fact is correct, you are confusing it with the top 4

To deflect slightly to great football facts......

In 1997 Middlesboro cancelled their game away to Blackburn in Dec '96 because 23 players were sick, injured or suspended and therefore they could not field much of a squad.

The FA docked Boro 3 points and the game went ahead towards the end of the season. It ended 0-0 so effectively cost Middlesboro 2 points.

Those 2 points ultimately relegated Boro and had they played the original fixture, anything less than a 7-0 defeat would have seen them survive that season!

Basically - Boro were relegated because their players got the runs!
