I swear that I once read that if everyone supported their nearest team we would have the most supporters, ie we had the biggest catchment area if you like. For years I insisted this was true, but could never find it on the internet.

A friend of mine then got the population of every postcode in the country and mapped it to the nearest ground to see if I was right. We did well but weren't top but it was done just after Crawley got promoted which would have caused a big hit. If I remember correctly both Sheffield clubs did well which was surprising. Might try and it that out again now

Palace are the only club in the top two divisions to have been deducted 9 or more points in a season and not be relegated.

1. The Holmesdale Road Stand was modelled on one of the stands at Highbury (but the Holmesdale holds more)

2. The last 3 goals ever scored at Plough Lane were by Ian Wright.

Millwall had to play their Division Two fixture v Newcastle United on 13th December 1947 at Selhurst Park because The Den had been closed by the F.A. because of scenes after their home game v Barnsley on October 18th.

I have had it said to me that this game against Newcastle attracted Millwall's highest home attendance that season. The Lions won 2-1 BTW.

Entered the Top 3 for the first time in the last 90 seconds of our 1976/7 season.

Claridge, Hoppo & Dougie also seasons which went to practically last kick.

'83 was a breeze - 7 minutes to spare when Ian Edwards netted the winner against Burnley.

Was the 3rd Place FA Cup Play Off (Everton / Stoke) at Selhurst the only one to ever be played?

Not that much of a downside - the fact we missed three penalties and still beat them is pretty amusing.

To have thrashed them 5-1 instead of 2-1 would have been even more amusing IMHO

Wonderful game. It was siege of the Alamo time, with virtually the whole game being played in our half. So no change there then. I remember hoping we could keep the tally down to a small cricket score. Then we broke away and scored. That seem ed to annoy them even more. The waves of red and white intensified, when somehow - I think it was near the end - by courtesy of a long ball hoof we found ourselves in their half; their defender made a mistake and (I think it was ) Gerry Queen scored. What made it even better at that time was supporting the Palace whilst living up in north London. My Arsenal supporting friends were a joy to be with that night. That's the fun of Palace. You never know what might happen next. So here's hoping for some of that magic dust from a great night at Highbury to sprinkle down this season and keep us in the Premier.

For a while I believe the Holmesdale was the largest stand of any London club - another fact to be proud of.

Then came the Emirates
