Biggest embarrassment

What is the most embarrassing thing for Brighton fans ?
Losing their ground because nobody cared ?
Clackers ?
Having the likes of Londoner, gladulloa and Hitler as fans ?
I suggest the last one .

Blimey, that's a tough question.

Their back to back promotions and 'coming to get Palace' mantra after all those years in the wilderness which spectacularly blew up in their faces at the 5-0 has to be up there. "Ooooh Andy Johnson's magic..."

What about The Crescent getting a nickname as 'the Brighton pub'? This was after some of their naughty chaps tried to tackle the old boys in the Duke of Cambridge just as Palace were making their way down from the Selhurst Arms. Cue kicked arses across the road and bolting themselves in the Crescent crying for the old bill to rescue them.

Fatboy slim? Bottled out of being a Palace fan, then watched his missus get tupped by a Palace fan only to take her back.

Claiming the FA Cup own goal record in a comedy fashion with a sexual deviant (worth billions at one point according to the Tarquins on NSC) juggling the ball into his own net.

Shitting on the floor of the away dressing room. "It was Holloway!" "It was the Palace coach driver!" Be quiet 'weed, and be honest. You showed yourself up as pigs that night, and were then rightly shamed on the pitch and in the stands.

This is a really tough one, old git.

"Spanish day" was rather silly.

I think the picture of the kid in the full mint choc chip Br*ghton kit with a Liverpool rucksack is embarrassing.

Lewis Dunk being linked with Man U, then being the same register as Hitler and now at Brizzle C is funny.

First ever league loss at the Andrex will be in history forever, it was vs. their arch-rivals.

Although not as singularly significant as the 5-0, not the play-off thrashing, I think the 3-1 humiliation at the Amex has a good claim to be the most embarrassing. Remember the context: we were just out if relegation, still rebuilding after that devastation and struggling in the league. Brighton had just been promoted, and their hoards of Man U/Liverpool/Tottenham supporting fans had turned up insisting they'd all been going for years. They were so looking forward to the match, so certain their time had come. They came on here talking about the tide of history having turned, and how we would be living in their shadow now on. They were desperate to turn the tables, absolutely desperate. A lifetime of shame, of our humiliating them, of being so embarrassed of Brighton that they'd rather stay at home and watch their Prem club on the telly. This was supposed to be their day. They had a new stadium now, and wasn't that proof enough?

Well no. It wasn't. We came down there and spanked them just like we usually do. All their pre-match talk was blown out of the water and Palace had become the first team to beat them in the league at their shiny new home, and the player they wouldn't stump out a couple of extra grand a week for had rubbed salt in the wound.

The despair on NSC afterwards was beautiful. The confusion from the plastics who had been taken in by the hype a joy to behold. There are teachers and their pupils, and once again Palace had put Brighton in their place, on and off the pitch - and the silence from the previous hoards of Brighton on the BBS was deafening.

Nah, the most embarrassing thing is having Crystal Palace as our rivals

I can see why that would have been embarrassing over the years.

"You've got Crystal Palace as your rivals? Why would they care about you, you're not even in the same league as them?"

Accounts for the massive chips you all have on your shoulders I suppose.

Whilst that is a very accuarte portral of what was a great day out in Sussex by the Sea a similar context could be offered to the play-off game.

We had spent the latter part of the season bobbing around in 3rd-5th place, they were coming up on the rails. e had been giving it that their previous season was the 1 time they would finish above us in the league only for them to leap-frog us in teh final few weeks and finish that 1 solitary precious place above us. Victory was theres, they had finished above us, were the form team going into the play-offs and no team had progressed through the end of sesaon spectacular with the form we were in. No only had they finished above us but teh final and promotion were now a mere formality.

The out-performed us in the first 45 minutes, no 2 ways about it but failed to convert their chances, all it did was priove to them how superior they were, they were imortal. Well they certain weren't human, what civilised human being could jump around and cheer when a fellow human being lay stricken with what everyone could see was a serious, possibly career threatening injury and celebrate a man being carried off on a stretcher. Oh yes we lost the leagues top scorer, a man without whom we were no threat to anyone, it may be 0-0 but we now go to fortress Amex where we lost 3-0 just months earlier without Murray - a foregone conclusion.

So certain was progression the threads on NSC were not about formation, tactics, starting 11, but about which trains people had booked, what hotels were available for the final ete, would they prefer Hull or Watford?

We all know what followed, it is etched in our memories and in theirs, a club creating a faux atmosphere as their fans could not be trusted to create one, and a set of vocal supporters, odds against them, backing their team for 90 minutes. Has any team in history, gone to the home of their rivals as huge underdogs, in what was effectively a 1 off game to reach a final and raised the roof with songs of their forthcoming trip to Wembley as the remaining home fans dashed for the exits as so many were alreadin in queues and on trains outside.

Their confidence and the end result was more extreme than WHU in 2004, it was pure elation and i challenge any Palace fan who was in the AMEX that night to forget that night before dementia or death takes that night away. We have 3 absolute undeniable humilitaions of Brighton in the past decade, but i guess they still live in the hope that 1 day it might be different.
