Don't agree that Pellegrino is a poor manager. Like lots of others, he is struggling to come to terms with the Prem (and especially the end-year fixtures which have been even madder this year - I would guess that was what Pep and RH were chatting about). Pellegrino, who is a diligent and studious bloke, might do "a Puel", by improving a lot once he gets used to the league - assuming the Southampton hierarchy don't flip the switch first !

FOUR away games on the bounce in March, massive and tough month for them.
Next 4 will be important for them.

After that their last 12 contain:
3 home games against the top 6
2 home games against those scrapping
4 away games at those in the top half
3 back to back away games at teams scrapping.

That does not look pretty. If they cannot get themselves some breathing space going into Februrary that looks a daunting task. Wonder who Les Reed thinks is going to do the job for them now, both on the pitch and in the dugout.

I think if Austin can stay fit until the end of the season or they can buy a decent forward, they'll be fine.

Austin, injured and suspension.

Lamina who was fantastic in the home game but has gone off the boil since by all accounts.

Fraser Forster, clanger against us but surely better than McCarthy?

They have a decent little squad and £75m from Van Djik to spend. Depends on A. Who they buy and B. If they keep the manager.

I would like to see us go in for a few of their players - Soares and Redmond in particular.
It shows how fans of other clubs see players differently to the fans of that club. Redmond in particular, someone that the BBS seems to love and think that we should have signed, appears to be generally disliked by the Southampton fans. View seems to be that he doesn't offer enough and is incredibly inconsistent, a lot of them see him as deadwood.

Fraser Forster is also not popular with them, similar with how we were talking about Henessey a few months ago. They think Steven Davis' legs have gone and he needs replacing asap.

Anyone else think he could be the next manager to go? If they drop into the bottom 3 he will be under alot of pressure. They have Tottenham next, and then games against Brighton and WBA. If they fail to get 4 points from these games I could see the owners starting to put alot of pressure on him.

Their last win was against Unsworths' Everton on 26th November. 1 win in 14.

Have become bored in recent years of cocky Soton supporters talking about how it doesn't matter every time they sell a key player because they have such a magnificent board who always have a plan, so it will be funny to see them relegated unexpectedly.

They have enough to stay up particularly when Austin returns.

The Newcastle and Aston Villa comparisons don't hold water as both clubs are a mess and have little identity for what they are trying to achieve. There is clear focus at Saints about where the club sees itself, what it is trying to do and has the infrastructure in terms of bricks & mortar plus staff to achieve its aims.
OK then. Not trousering the cash in any way. This post hasn't aged well.

Unbelievable that between 3rd March and 14th April they have 4 away games.

How was that ever scheduled?

Their game vs West Ham was originally scheduled as a home game but the fixtures were swapped because West Ham's stadium wasn't ready at the beginning of the season.

Its funny listening to pundits when talking about relegation at about October they were saying Southampton were safe and Watford. So reactive in opinions. Both have struggled since. Not saying both or either will go down but shows they know f all.

They just say what they see, they never say anything with foresight, either because they dont have any or they dont want to gamble. Savage saying we would be the worst team ever in Premiership history earlier this season was an easy one, 7 game no goals. Yes it looked like we set for a big battle but we all mostly knew that once de Boer was chopped we could rebuild and have a chance.
