I have stopped vaping now as well, but to start with vaping helped massively with cutting down my nicotine intake (you can reduce the amount of nicotine you inhale down to zero) and anywhere that has a ban/restriction makes you want to do it all the more

I don't think Pistol Knight has picked up on this but that was his point at Hull, he wanted to "smoke" on the stairs inside. He didn't want to go and stand with those outside smoking real cigarettes.

I'm not so sure that there is any basis in law for banning vaping anyway.

Fundamentally you are requiring that someone does not inhale a legal substance and exhale some legal vapour.

I wonder if any club has a lawful basis to do this; it would make a fascinating test case if anyone wants to take them on.

I haven't smoked a fag for 18 months or so but when I go to Palace I love standing with the smokers as I vape. I still love the smell of cigs.

I know that's the legal point Maz and I could see the clubs reasoning when the E cigs looked like real cigarettes albeit with a blue tip but he new E cgs look like you are smoking something much more dangerous and couldn't be mistaken for a cigarette.

Surely vapes are just one of many perfectly legal items that are banned from use in football stadiums?

(Not that I agree with them being banned, I think that's dumb)

I can understand cigarettes being banned in football grounds (passive smoking and whatnot) but can't understand vapes being banned. They are harmless to anyone standing nearby. Maybe farting should be banned, after all that releases far more toxic chemicals.

Can't help but agree .. The law regarding e cigs is an absolute farce . People who complain about them are not only incredibly ignorant of their use, ingredients, and effects..they quite clearly have naff all else to moan about.. Next to be banned will be kettle steam if the lunatics capture much more of the asylum ..

I don't think they are banned per se. I think you can take them into a ground, but just not use them, (as is the same with airplanes*).

I'm struggling to think of other items which you are allowed to take into the ground but then not allowed to actually use for the exact purpose for which they are intended.

Surely you can use vapes in the toilets on a plane. It's a completely private area and I assume it wouldn't let off an alarm in there?

You can use them anywhere providing they don't see you using them.

That's my point; they have banned the use of something but they have not banned you taking them onboard. And they can't detect you using them (I always used to use them in my seat but under a blanket, since this would absorb the vapour).

I think they do set the smoke alarm off in some circumstances. I'm sure it would depend on the amount of vape you exhale I guess.

I did it on my last flight with no issues - maybe it's a scaremongering thing telling everyone that.

I didnt realise the smoking area at Palace was against PL rules - prob naive here.

Isnt the simple answer here that given we do have a smoking area to go vape there to avoid any confrontation with stewards etc?

Seems like a petty argument IMO.

Found this via Google on another forum.....

Working in the aviation safety industry, I can confirm that many and an increasing number of toilets are fitted with sensors that are capable of detecting electronic cigarette emissions - typically a variety of sensor types are used rather than just relying on a single technology - e.g both particle and photo-electric devices. This can vary from aircraft to aircraft.

As a test - blow e-cigarette vapours directly into a domestic smoke alarm - a good number will go off!

Some people suggest blowing directly down the toilet bowl letting the vacuum do its work, but flight attendants are alert to this.

A main concern with them is that manufacturing and safety standards of these devices can vary, and there have been cases of these devices igniting (as there have been of iPhones and other electronic devices but of course these can be used!). There are several other factors as well.

As others say, the various authorities come down fairly hard on anyone caught breaking rules on aircraft. They can also come after people for any costs from diverts, delayed take-offs/arrivals and other other related things.

There is vaping, and there is stealth vaping (where the vapour is absorbed by some material, like a jumper or a blanket).

The latter is not detectable, done right.

In a plane, or indeed a football ground.

When did you give up smoking?

They say if you hold your breath for a few seconds after inhaling you will release very little vapor, if any at all. Not sure if holding steam in your lungs is harmful or not really. That said, when you go in a sauna you effectively do just that or stand in a bathroom whilst the shower is running.

You've done great Maz btw - from all the years of reading your posts, I would have thought you would be one of the last to give up, along with PK because you were so pro smoking. Out of interest, do you drink alcohol, and if so, do the cravings come back even though you have adopted the AC theory.
