This baseless speculation is pathetic and unnecessary, and underlines part of the problem.

Not sure they will come out - I wouldn't. It's not relevant to being a footballer. That said, I don't think there will be an issue with crowds - like racism, the ruling authorities would come down really hard on fans singing any abuse and with CCTV cameras they would make an example of people with long bans.

That said, I would go for Bamford for the Premier League player and Chris Smalling for the England international, primarily on the basis that they seem too intelligent to be professional footballers

I see Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain's name pop up more so than anyone else.

Whoever it is, good on them. However, this story was in the news a couple years ago now and it was never revealed.

I couldn't really give a monkeys who it is, but for a while I've been wondering what would happen if an international player comes out before the Qatar world cup.

As far as I am aware, homosexuality is still illegal there, so would a player then be prohibited from taking his partner with him if all other players are taking their wifes and girlfriends. Would a Football Association (not just ours) have the bollocks to say that they weren't prepared for one of their players to be discriminated against or would they just brush it under the carpet. Would be interesting to see.

Pretty sure we lost 4-3. I was there that day, as a ball boy.

As the teams ran out, Fashanu hadn't even made it outside the tunnel and someone wolf-whisteled, and Vinnie Jones shouted 'BOLLOX'. They were inspired that day and Fashanu scored an absolute belter.

I thought that John Fashanu rejected his brother on account of his homosexuality. And it was mooted that this rejection, amongst other factors of course, led to his ultimate suicide? Or am I wrong?

Indeed.

And yes we did win - I was around 11/12 at the time and my recollection was that the Palace fans where in the wrong that day. Even in 1990 a 12 year old could figure that out.
