Please Help Save Purley!!

Another planning application has been submitted for the Purley Cross site, and this time it's even higher than before. Currently standing at 17 storeys with a combined total of 220 residential units and growing. The proposed build is divided into 3 phases, work starting in Oct 2016 and to be completed in 2021...yes 5 years of building works in the centre of Purley

Totally out of character, ruining the skyline, causing traffic chaos and delays, additional pollution and noise for locals, small local businesses being affected, continual high rise buildings making Purley into an inner city eye-sore, house prices affected, exacerbating the flooding problems for all residents amongst many other negative reasons.

This giant erection is being proposed by the Baptist Church, and part of the plan is to build a new 500 seater church...have they not read about the Tower of Babel??

Please take a few moments to contact Croydon to highlight your objections:

It might not make any difference as this is recommended by the Planning Committee for approval, but with a large out-cry of disapproval, they might think again.

Please help, Purley needs you!!

If you wish you're comments too mean anything, you need to frame them in planning terms. Look at the local plan. I'm willing to bet a development of that size is higher density than is available for Purley, for example.

Any other suggestions of valid points to make in the correct way?

I'll have to have a look at it first.

It won't be this weekend though sadly.

Local plan gives guidance as to what is allowed, should be reasonably self explanatory ...

Only if the committee did not take account of the Local Plan, even then if they can demonstrate this development can help meet the 5 year housing supply it meets requirements of NPPF whatever the Local Plan says.

Doesn't look like it's been decided yet so highlighting conflicts with the local plan will be useful. Also local plan is supposed to fit the NPPF.

Most don't lol Depends what the housing delivery rate has been in the Borough and if it has kept up with what has been set out in the London Plan. Officers making recommendations to approve will have considered this, so even if committee reject the developer will win on appeal.

I think that Croydon's long term plan is to increase its population massively especially with Westfield coming and all the new residential building work going on around East Croydon and north of the borough.

Places like Purley, Sanderstead, etc will probably have a lot more of these planning applications and developments over the next few years especially with all the space available there and transport links.

Surely to be in line with the delivery rate, the Borough still needs to take into account where these developments will not be out of place?

But no infrastructure to educate or keep the community sanitary and healthy

It's just profiteering by development companies under the guise of 'affordable housing' at the detriment of all locals at all levels.

And another worry for Purley must be that once such as high rise development is approved, more will find it easier to follow.

Very true.If you look at Coulsdon one block of flats was built and this was quickly followed by another next door.Further blocks are due to be built in the same area near Coulsdon Town station.
