Plans of the new building look great! Hopefully they can push this one through.

No they don't.

How would a 17-storey building suit Purley where the tallest building is probably Sainsburys car park..?

The "new" Sainsbury's being built on the old open-air car park started the rot that has led to Purley becoming such a shithole.

I can't really see that the proposed development of the "old" Sainsbury's site would be such a bad thing - anything has got to be better than what is there now.

The diehard swimmers are fighting a very determined campaign to keep the leisure centre there, and I think the whole site would need to be redeveloped.

But, realistically, there would only be hideous flats built, so the manky concrete car park is on a par with that.

Just think what great views residents would have. Purley has been in decline for years a tower block would not look so out of place.

Completely out of context with the locality. It will only increase the already congested roads in Purley Town Centre and make the traffic situation at rush hours even worse.

I moved to Purley in May last year, having never been here much before. I don't know what it used to be like, but I much prefer it to other places I've lived. OK the area around Tesco is quite ugly, but there's tons of gorgeous green space, lovely houses on beautiful tree-lined streets, friendly people and good train links. I love living here.

Nah, it was always just an inconvenient bottleneck between London and the south coast. Tiffany's during the late 70's was the only reason to go anywhere near it.

But everyone would have it in their line of vision also. By definition it would look out of place, there being no 17-storey buildings in Purley, let alone sticking out like a sore thumb.

And in regards to the Crystal Palace site, having also lived next to it on Farquarh Rd for a couple of years and been in the park loads, it has a nice feel to it as it is, but is falling apart a bit and the hidden jewels of the tunnels should be reopened for use in some capacity, however the stadium and concrete walkways really needs to be looked at. Rather than a 50000 stadium seater, I'd like to see the area developed as our Academy and fitness / training complex, very much lower-key than a stadium, and no massive traffic increase.

Im against it, as above its completly out of context

If you look at the surrounding area, the buildings are actually fairly nice looking, and not high rise, it would stick out like a sore thumb.

Maybe theyve asked for 17 storeys so they can negotiate down to what they really expect,, they are some 3 or 4 storey apartments/flats opposite tesco on the brighton road and that would be more in keeping.

So depressing to see another proposal for a high rise building. One thing I'm glad that I moved away from Croydon about is that I have moved to an area where there is only a few storey of flats and nothing on the scale of the ones in Croydon. Although saying that Corydon Council are trying to force high rises here in the Rother District to house people from Croydon in high rise flats which I believe is strongly opposed here.

Majorly depressing for myself and those in my generation with the prices of houses in the country and the lack of new builds that are suppose to be affordable it is an uphill battle to get on the property ladder, one I probably don't see winning till I'm at least 35-40 is I save vigorously. No chance of that in Croydon but thankfully as it stands I have a decent chance of getting on the ladder down here.
