Hughsie and Thomas were genuine hard men who could dish it out as well as take it on the chin. They never resorted to throwing cowardly elbows because they were just better than that.

To describe Jedinak's elbow as a bit mischievous is plain wrong. It was dangerous and cowardly, no excuses.

I loved Thomas, Hughes and Jedinak. In their different ways, all made great contributions to the club.

Thomas was a hard man and his most famous elbow was in the ZDS Cup final against Everton where he deliberately took out Martin Keown with his elbow at a corner, breaking his nose in the process. Keown had previously badly fouled one of ours (Eric Young?) and Thomas got his retribution. Keown was taken to hospital on a stretcher.

There was less TV coverage in those days and so the incident wasn't picked up on.

To be honest, I don't see a great difference between what Jedinak and Thomas did.

Overrated tbh. Great winner of balls in the air and good in the tackle. Excellent in a Pulis backs to the walls ten at the back outfit. Anything else and his weaknesses are exposed. All those saying he steadied the ship when coming back into the team - we lost about 20 games on the trot ffs. No surprise he wasn't playing a part when we got up to 5th.

I like the guy and he played a big role getting and keeping us up, but rose tinted specs here on his quality.

Yep. Before the play off semi against the bottlers, I was so nervous, then I heard Jedi on fyp podcast. After that I just knew we were gonna do them. Dougie said Jedi was he's best ever signing on radio 5. He said he allowed him to manage the team on the training ground, while Jedi took care of the team on the pitch and managed the dressing room. Bannan was on periscope... And to be honest I don't like BB. Someone asked the best player at palace... He replied Jedi... He said he allowed the flair players to do their stuff, he said Jedi organises the team so that they were compact, which meant the wingers etc could express themselves. When Jedi played for us, you could see him organising the team. Making sure players were I'm the right positions when we didn't have the ball. Playing def mid isn't only about headers and tackles, its about cutting off passages of play, Jedi was a master at this... He made us hard to beat, he installed a attitude in the team that took us from champ to prem. Hard as ducking nails physically and mentally.

There seems to be some confusion, that to show respect for previous legends you have to say they are still playing well now, or refuse to acknowledge age might be catching up.

Jedinak is in my top 3 Palace players ever, but unfortunately, as we were ready to make the step up he could no longer make those standards. However , he deserves nothing but respect and love for everything he has done at the club.

Your opinion, but I disagree. Lombardo, Rogers, Byrne, Taylor, Martyn, Jansen, Wright, Bright, Sansom, Salako, Hilaire, Cannon, Thomas, etc, etc,. Jedinak was a great servant to the club, a huge motivator and very good defensive midfielder, but in my view nowhere near top three. Perhaps you mean in the last ten years.

Jedinak is a Palace legend, always will be in my eyes. He makes players around him walk tall. He did it with Palace, he does it with Australia and in time he'll do it at Villa.

Leadership is so underrated and he's one hell of a leader, I love the guy.

So much being made of the Jedi elbow incident,in his time at Palace,Jedi represented a very tough, uncompromising style of midfield. To suggest that he "let the club down"on that occasion is frankly nonsense. The guy he clobbered was running around smashing into everyone he could,so he got a taste in return, this happens in games year and year out.Lets be realistic, every team needs an enforcer to protect the flair players,Jedinak was just unlucky,he got caught,Look at Dawson of WBA,he attacked Speroni and smashed his eye socket, never even got booked. To bleat that we dont want this sort of player at our club is frankly a bit Brighton.Every club has (and needs) a hard mad who will put himself about when needed or the pitch will be littered with injured players,i would prefer that the ones lying on the floor were opposition than our players.

Come on, this is a game where tempers flare at any time and by sometimes the most unexpected players, as we saw with Aguero lately. I am not condoning what Jedi did, but it is a spur of the moment reaction that happens, don't tell me you have not reacted at some stage and then regretted it.
As for his past performances, he has been outstanding far far more often than poor, He along with Speroni have been our saviours on so many times, so why not remember him for the good times he gave Palace.

I would say Darzet, he was referring to during his time supporting Palace (he is aged 29) so possibly would not have seen most of the players you refer to be able to compare.

I guess you are correct Nigel, as suggested in my last sentence. Lombardo and Jansen were playing within his early days as was Australian Craig Foster who was similar to Mile.
