What's Delap up to these days?

It's been like this for as long as I can remember

I get envious when I see the opposition actually do something worthwhile with a throw

Movement from throw ins

It drives me mad when Townsend and Zaha leave the ball on the touch line for TFM/PvA to throw but walk away with their backs turned, not a care in the world for getting the ball thrown to them. No urgency

A throw-in for us usually just means possession is going to the opposition. Has been like that as long as I can remember. Been a fan since 1994....

The set-pieces today were diabolical, as ever.

Cabaye not getting his corner past the first man. Yawn.
Stupid indirect free-kick routine from which PVA blasts into row Z instead of Cabaye or Townsend crossing it into the mixer.

I was gong to take issue but saw you started watching in 1994. A Kenny Sansom long throw was a thing of beauty

Not just us. Iím amazed at how barely any professional football team seems to have a throw in strategy.

Or the amount of foul throws that are allowed to happen.

Often the throw in ‘strategy’ is lob it at Benteke. But he is often in a sandwich of opposition defenders so, even if he does manage to make the first touch, they outnumber him and snaffle up the next touch.

We’ve discussed this before on the BBS as it’s been obvious for a long while. I felt for TF-M yesterday as there were a number of throw ins when none of our players were trying to give him an option. Or if they did, it was just one at a time. If more moved, then the opposition would find it harder to cover all the potential targets.

One of Danny Murphy's pet hates too. Teams that have one always seem to lose possession once taken.

Dario Gradi used to work on throw-ins at Crewe when Danny was there.

Do we do any work on throw-ins ?

Cabaye hasnt scored a freekick for us, and his corners are awful. How he justifies his role as set piece taker I dont know.

I'm a big fan of our two main strategies which seem to be: i) throw it to the opposition and hope to win it back off them. ii) throw it to the opposition and hope they stick it out for a throw in 10 yards down the field.

I feel like I've been shouting "Movement!" and "Who ******* wants it?!" during throw-ins for the last couple of decades.

Richard Harris? Poor player but a long throw.

Oh for a Rory Delap. I was watching a video of his throws the other day for some reason. Assume it popped up on Twitter. Anyway, the pace and flatness of the throw was so hard to defend against.
