Bomber Harris. Not sure if that was his nickname or just what me and my mates called him because of his long throw.

Wickham has a decent long throw IIRC.

Totally agree with the OP (and many others) though. We must be able to work on some throw in routines.

No he threw it straight in and was disallowed (obviously)

At the time people were talking about Challinor at Tranmere and later Delap. Richard Harris was even better than those two. He used to throw from the half way line. Incredible to watch and would love to see footage of it again.

all the time I've supported Palace we've been static at our throw ins, never intelligent or spontaneous. If you're smart and take them quickly throw ins can spark something.

Really surprised yesterday just how long the ball was left out of play at throw ins. More to the point how many times someone picked up the ball and their only thought was to look and wait for someone more defensive to hand it over to without looking at any quick options even if only back to the goalkeeper. Everything that went out near me ended as a short throw and tap back to the thrower who was quickly surrounded by Newcastle who had time to get in position.

I would have thought Zaha would be a good player to throw the ball into with his quick feet, but there was once yesterday where he wasn’t even looking at the thrower!

Funny enough I was thinking the other day how good our movement at throw ins was compared to teams of Palace past.

That said, they're starting from a pretty low base.

Agree that we should be working on this in training.

I can't recall us managing to keep possession from a single throw in the opposition's half yesterday. Admittedly our throw-in technique was generally a little better than Spurs' but at least they kept possession from their legal throws. Surely our coaching staff must be able to come up with a solution?

It's probably because nobody was brave enough to show for the ball under pressure - That's where the Cabayes & RLC of this world have an impact on our team.

But it really isn't, our throws were no better when we had our first team out there.

No one is prepared to throw the ball across the pitch to a player in space, instead itís the usual one to the player marked by two opppstion players. Even ( canít believe Iím saying this ) throw it back to the keeper

Our throw ins have been woeful for years.

We went through a phase of about 2 games about 4 years ago where we actually scored soon after a throw-in, Crystanbul being one of them where their GK had kicked it straight out from a GoalKick, and think we did something similar in the next match or soon after. Probably shows that we can take decent throws when the pressure is off, but players hide when it's backs to the walls time.

Man up, move about, give an option and actually want the ball you overpaid numpties. It's not rocket surgery.

I heard Ed Leigh say something similar on his Olympic commentary.

It went something along the lines of......"you don't have to be a rocket surgeon...."

It was the guy commentating with Ed Leigh who pretty much made a dick of himself throughout the whole Olympics.

'Here's Shaun White, a man who sprinkles pressure on his breakfast cereal' was a particular lowlight.

Although to be fair, our own Aaron Wan-Bissaka lifted his back leg miles in the air on his first two throws which the lino and ref failed to spot. Perhaps the art of the throw in is no longer taught in school!

I can't recall the last time I saw a foul throw being blown for, let alone three.
