This has got to be the weakest political class for generations, and the Tories are no different from the rest of the parties in being led by a set of non-entities (or worse). Against that backdrop May appears, at least, to be reasonably calm and competent - virtues now exceedingly rare on the front benches.

When you add in the customary new PM bounce, and the fact that Corbyn and Labour are utterly, utterly unelectable, then it's hardly surprising that May is doing well in comparison.

There is a thread started by Racehorse about the Tories. It seems that a lot of stuff that would normally make people angry is being shunted aside by Brexit dominating the news media. Labour being sidetracked by tossers like Livingstone must help her. As growth slows this year then some chickens will come home to roost but it would still be very surprising if the Tories didn't win in 2020.

She's the least incompetent of the top Tories, Cameron and Osborne are finished, Gove is a lightweight, Johnson is Trump with an O level, Leadsom's lack of intelligence was massively exposed during the leadership contest and Hague has retired. None of the other Tories has a high profile. Is there a single Tory MP who would defeat her in a leadership challenge?

Probably the luckiest mediocre politician ever, she has the job for as long as she wants it due to Corbyn being unelectable and a lack of talent in the government racks.

Don't play the middle class card with me, it won't wash. Loads of working class people and the vast majorit of unions supported remain.

You have supported the biggest rightward shift in the uk in decades and now effective call May a safe pair of hands.

You might not like what you've done but you've just bolstered the right in society massively and the idea that workers will benefit from Brexit and nationalism is a utopia. But given you've got a cushy life it won't matter to you.

Don't agree with any of this. If May had the kind of backbenchers Corbyn does then the government would fall within days.

I do find it kind of bizarre that people have such an issue with Corbyn, so he's not what you're used too due to the rent a clone politicians you're used too, so what. I haven't seen him say or do anything worthy of the vitriol he gets, we're becoming a bit America lite with the complete castigation of the left being communists in the eyes of your average man/woman that reads the Daily Mail (yeah I'm looking at you Biggin).

What does any of that even mean? Brexit is harming workers more than anything in generations. May is leading the charge on that.

Not too many core labour voters read the mail ..And its those this corbyn led shower of shit are letting down . Hold that thought and ask some daily mirror voters why they cant relate to corbyn .. If you cant see why people have an issue with the most powderpuff labour leader this country has ever seen , then you need to get out more ..

Someone in the week described May as a 'parochial shire Tory'. She's competent, but only just about competent to be deputy headmistress at a primary school.

For the world we live in now, she lacks the vision to lead a bitterly divided country, and certainly lacks the ability to oversee anything as complex and potentially damaging as Brexit.

I suspect the next two years will be the undoing of both her and the idea that a non-catastrophic Brexit can be achieved.

However, saying all that, Corbyn makes May look like Churchill in comparison

I disagree. I think she's done ok.
History will show she was the right person in the right place at the right time for Brexit.

Far too early to make any call on that whatsoever, wherever you stand on the issue.

As SE25 said. She hasn't actually done anything yet. Mainly as she's being having to plan various options for Brexit as Cameron explicitly told the civil service not to prepare for the possibility. She has said a lot of those things. Some of them very good and centrist. However until any of those things become real, we don't really know where she is at.

Whatever anyone says Brexit will happen. It might turn out to be the biggest disaster ever but whatever anyone says nothing can stop us leaving. I wouldn't have thought that would have happened if Boris / Gove /an other had taken over
