As others have been said we seem to have been after this guy for ever. We seem to have a habit of identifying a player and then sticking with him as a target for years. Wouldn't surprised to see Shearer or Le Tiss signing for us in Jan.

Obviously with Babs we have 3 or 4 years of data and insight into his progress but how likely is it that the right player 3 or 4 years ago is still the right player when you have a world of players to choose from? Or is it more likely that someone somewhere has locked into a belief?

Would like something positive to finish on but just watched last year's highlights and bearing in mind it is highlights he doesn't look clinical and not sure his touch/control/carrying the ball are up to today's Premier League. In a way he reminds me of a clumsy Benteke. Can shoot and head but he has scored goals in Seria A and that can't be that easy despite their national decline so.... a positive?

Usually Palace screw around until the subject has a hot streak, then someone else buys him.
But, not to worry, RH says all the rumours are cobblers (I believe him), and the latest crap from the 'Star' is not even worth a post, is it ?
Of course, an African playing in a medium-sized club in Italy, is not necessarily the same as an African playing for a Prem club which welcomes Africans and has quite a few on the books.

Won't sign him until he's past it and we're desperate in a Jan transfer window.

Well, the second part is true - no idea whether he's past it or not though.

He's 24, same as Wilf. Senegalese, like Sakho and Souare.

It worries me we have basically spent 3 years tracking this guy. He isn't even that good.

It's from his agent via the Star, so a large measure of sodium chloride is probably indicated.

Obviously still in cynical mood this morning but read BBC gossip that Ulloa will leave Leicester in Jan and as we seem to have been tracking him since his Brighton days (over 4 years) we are sure to end up with him now that he is 31. Place your bets now.

Ulloa would be a good signing. Him plus another striker - i.e. someone who has pace and power - and we'd be sorted up front.

My point wasn't really about Ulloa personally but more about how can the same striker that was the best option 4 or 5 years ago at 26/27 still the best option at 31.

We need a good finisher that has good movement. I am not sure that Ulloa fits that. I was hoping for some one more like Walcott. Pace, movement and finishing who can fit into our shape. Not sure how unrealistic that is these days. Less than before if we weren't in such a mess in the table.

Still pretty unrealistic, Walcott’s not that good a player but he’d still see himself as bigger than us, even if we were comfortably in 10th-14th.

Ah, I see. My thinking is that - as we're going to be playing 4-4-2 - we need four strikers minimum. We have one in benteke and Ulloa would be a good back up option for him, with another more pacy striker coming in too. Wilf would also be an option - or he could play on the wing. Wickham will eventually come back but I'm not sure we can expect much from him this season.

As for Walcott, he's undoubtedly good player but another who is too injury prone. Seems risky as a result.

do not think Ulloa has pace , personally I feel we need an alternative to Benteke - someone with more pace , decent touch and can create goals for themselves ( finding is going to be difficult )

He doesn't. I meant Ulloa plus a striker with pace would be good. Then we've got great options.

In 400 minutes this season he has 5 goals and an assist. He is not playing in the PL though and will need to move in Jan if he is going to go to the World Cup.

10 goals in 1925 minutes in the PL last season, a better strike rate than Christian Benteke. Interesting to know what you class as 'not that good a player'?

Has 18 months left on his current deal so Arsenal will surely look to sell at some point in 2018 but won't be cheap in January.

Not been injured for 10 months, just not getting in the team. Since his ACL in 2014 in the last 3 years he has been injured for a total of about 3 months and missed 23 games (8 a year) in that time. Not exactly a sicknote.

He's not been injured much in recent months because he never plays. He's always out injured - one of those typical Arsenal players like Wilshire who are weak.
