Bet365 refuse 1m payout over alleged third party staking

I wondered what everyone thinks about this story that was in the news recently. Apparently Bet365 are alleging the punter's stake was supplied by someone else and this breaches their terms and conditions. The customer is taking them to court ...

Completely wrong by 365.

But just as pertinent, what is a 19 year old doing staking 25k on the nags!

It sounds like it was a fair few accumulator bets that came off over a period of time.

If she had already won a few then possible she was using some winnings that had in fact been paid.

She is either very lucky, very clued in or maybe (and possible something the betting company suspect) has an inside track...

I think thats the point 365 are making. It looks like she was some kind of betting 'mule' placing bets for a gambling racket ?

They should still cough up though, they accepted the bet.

Whether their suspicions prove to be true, on what grounds are they permitted to keep the original stake money?

This all day long. They will happily take your money for years and years when you're losing but as soon as you start winning, you can expect your online account to be restricted in no time at all.

I am not into gambling but I thought that bookmakers "laid the bet off" to share the risk?

This story leaves me wondering where you would stand if you opened a new account with a bookie for a friend or relative, after being closed down or restricted. If you won, could they void the bet? I guess they wouldn't worry if it was small amounts, but if it was larger sums?

From what I've heard, it's quite common for 'winning punters' to open new accounts if restricted as a way of getting bets on.

I had a bookie who wouldn't pay me out a bet. I had no recourse to law. Tough shit.

I've opened so many accounts in so many names it's untrue and I'm hardly a big time punter. Doesn't take much to get your account restricted. Lost my first 365 account in 2006 for a win of under 300 on Rugby League. Jokers!

It's pretty obvious that this lass is putting on bets for other people but in that case 365 shouldn't be taking the bet. That's the joke part. If the bet is accepted then it should be honoured.

She should have been smarter and spread the bet across multiple accounts.

The average person thinks bookies take bets all day long. Not the case. I gave up betting in shops a few years back when even 200 on a Premier League game was enough to get the assistant to ring head office and ask if they could take the bet. More often than not, it was offered at odds lower than the coupon or restricted to 20.

Simple thing is they would rather 100 people did 1 accumulators at big odds than take 1 x 100 at 6/4. It's all about spreading the risk. In fact they'd rather no one ever bet on sport and just shoved their money in the FOBT machines (a.k.a. roulette machines) that have taken over shops and have kept HIgh Street bookies profitable.

Really? They paid out on a bet I did a few years ago, Chamakh to score first in a 2-1 Palace win. We lost 2-1 but MC did score first and they paid accidently. Sent me an email saying I could keep the $1800 as it was their fault. I was happy.

They paid out on the win though, presumably?
