Disgraceful Disabled Facilities

Hi All,

I do not normally like to complain, however this time i have no option but too.

My Dad now has to use a wheel chair therefore we had to move to Holmesdale Disabled Section this season for the first time.

The facilities are terrible! It's first come first serve, and most of the views are blocked by Block A standing up the whole game.

Palace spent I'm sure lots of money over the summer on a new section which has terrible views of the pitch (right behind the portacabin) you can only see half the pitch! So guess what, no one used it...what a waste of money!

Then we had a water leak coming down on disabled fans and to top it all, NO seats for any of the careers of which I am one! I had to stand for 90 mins!

Then the new disabled area in the main stand is down the front with NO rain cover!

You wouldn't treat a dog like this! How on earth can Palace (a Prem club) be allowed to treat its disabled fans like this! My Dad has been a supporter for over 60 years and is seriously thinking about quitting because the facilities are so poor!

Steve Parish - if you do read this! Please please address these issues! This is not fair! And you may need a wheel chair one day too!

Rant over...

Don't worry though, we have a lovely new fanzone. Parish is just a wideboy who loves attention, rather than care for the real fans. This is a disgrace

Unfortunately, Selhurst Park is a shit hole.

Why on earth we haven't spent any money on demolishing parts of Selhurst is a disgrace really. The facilities are a joke, but they always have been. Ron, to his credit tried time and time again to improve the ground for the benefit of everyone but since Ron nothing has really changed. Sure we have some cladding and fancy vinyl signs but what about the things that matter, e.g disabled facilities.

Brightons stadium looked ok, compared to Selhurst which looked tired.

Maybe, but Parish said they spent a million pounds this summer on disabled areas

I wonder if it is any better in the extended area in the Arthur Wait Stand?

This is why we really need a new main stand, not just tarting up existing old areas that were never originally designed for it.

One day any of us might need to use such facilities either because of an accident causing disability, or just old age, so really hope real stadium improvements (ie a new stand) do come soon

There are now wheelchair areas running the length of the AW just after row 35. The area just behind where I sit, more or less on the halfway line, was pretty much empty all game

Thanks for your replies so far. I'm not going to just accept this!

I will personally take this up with the club and demand a meeting to discuss / resolve.

Apparently, there was a meeting in the summer and there was an agreement to remove the portacabin which only gets used by sky no more than twice a year!

This seems such a simple resolution, it would create probably an additional 30 spaces and encourage fans to use the new facilities.

I will not stop until our voices are at least heard!

Needs highlighting and addressing then. The stadium has 4 stands, 3 of which are well past their sell by date.

Not just one.

Sounds as disgraceful as southern rails attitude to disabled people.

On another note what's the script in the main stand. Last season if you were in section A main stand we could use row 18 (I think) in section B which is the wide row to get across to access the toilets and concourse. During the game there was a steward there making us go down to the front, across then back up. I realise it's probably a pain in the arse for the people in the wide row but assumed they maybe paid less for their seats to put up with this.

It looked like they also had them there for the away fans which is just stupid when the vast majority will be standing all game.

Why don't you just contact the club directly?

Palace have spent a lot of money ensuring the ground is on a par with the team.

Today proved they've achieved that.

Just seen this on twitter. WOW. The club should be ashamed of itself. If the national press pick up on that then we can't complain as that is wholly unacceptable.

Yes, but it's ours, which seems to be good enough for a lot of people.

Personally I think it's pretty much a disgrace but I can understand that the people in charge are caught on the horns of a dilemma: invest in the stadium/infrastructure or in the team in an era when utterly crazy sums are being asked in fees and wages.
