Have a go at him for being injured all the time but to say he hasnt been good when fit is lies.

Here is one game where he scored two top class goals:

Of the four Wickham by some way would be the one I hope to contribute.

Well we know he is back running, will probably have been doing things like cycling long before that so his cv fitness is probably ok.

So it should just be the work usually done in pre season and when he can start doing ball work will give a better indication. Could be 4-6 weeks though.

Not to mention scored a perfectly good goal in the final only to be denied by Clattenberg!

Barely anything there mate. You must have low standards if you think that is a good return over two and a bit years for a 9million striker.

By the way, for the record I think he is a good player with real potential but I just think he needs to step up now and really deliver. His career has stalled because of all his injuries. Hopefully he can come back and be a real asset to us. We certainly need him to be.

Had he not been injured he would have given us a return we would expect from a 9m striker.

I'm sure he would have. The big question though is: can he ever retain fitness for more than 2 or 3 games at a time? Hopefully he can.

I'm not convinced he is ever going to be prolific - 7 or 8 a season even if he stays fit. He just doesn't seem to have that natural instinct to be in the right place. However, I do think he has something to offer - he's a decent footballer and better than Benteke on the ground. If we'd had him on the bench -or better still starting instead of Lee - at Burnley we'd have got at least a point

There aren't many strikers who score a lot of goals in the premier league when they are 22 / 23. Wickham has a lot of potential and its not like his game is based around pace. If he can get back to full fitness I think he will become an important player for us.

Fully fit and in form he's capable of 15 goals in this league IMO

Anyone actually know when he's back?

Pictures of him running on his Instagram page are encouraging. Heard he won't be back til Jan but can't be more than 6 weeks away can he?

No way is he that close, once he starts training with others then you can say he about 6-8 weeks away from sub appearances with the kids, then another month trying to build match fitness... Would say January is a good guess

Haha, yea, was going to include the inevitable 'set back' in that but was trying to be optimistic... But yea, you know it's coming

Here is an article on Gundogan's recovery from an ACL injury. It is a slow process:-

I tore my ACL in my mid-twenties and had it surgically reconstructed using my patella tendon. While my knee had not collapsed since I never played competitive sport again. I cannot express enough how much this injury takes out of you.

The problem for me is this:

He comes back and has three or four games. First game he is rusty and we all accept that. Second game he's just average - okay. Third game he has a blinder. Fourth game he starts well again and then gets injured. Rinse and repeat.

When he is back, if he gets a longish term injury again, I think we have to write him off.

If he starts at end of January, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect hime to be available until the season ends.

Gundogan off injured tonight and out for a month.
It is hard to set firm timelines but certainly in the past there have been players that were kept on clubs' books for too long (Anderton springs to mind). Wilshere needs to have a good season too to justify his wages. As for CW, let's hope he comes back and shines.
