a need to remember all killed in war including innocent civilians and non British soldiers
As said above rather than glorifying war as the next few weeks will do , emphasise its pointlessness and the needless slaughter of millions some in Yemen by Saudis using british arms. If white poppies help to do this what the harm?

Red - whatever you think about our wars since (and yes a lot of them were shit and unnecessary) WW2 was as close to goodies v baddies as you can get outside of fiction and there are many veterans of that war still alive.

Gawd, if any of those on twitter ect who screech about 'punching nazis' get upset by red poppies then the lack of critical thinking beggars belief. You're honouring blokes who actually risked/gave their lives to kill the ****ers.

Can't wait for the usual James McClean hate campaign when he refuses to wear a poppy on his shirt. Freedom, liberty and equality which so many died for go out the window when it comes to the usual crazies on here

Because glorifying war is absolutely not what the red poppy is about, and it is the misunderstanding of that fundamental fact that causes some of the problems.

It is OK to remember all killed at the remembrance events.

You donít need to wear a white poppy to suggest otherwise.

For the record, I do support that itís up to individuals to buy poppies or not. Itís just annoying when people say they donít because they glorify war, because that is a superficial understanding.

Because it interferes with and takes away from the poppy campaign, if they want to campaign for their beliefs do so at another time and not interfere with the British Legion campaign.

I think most people have little concept of what happened in either world war, or many of the wars that Britain's have lost their lives in outside of having seen a few films. You are right, the true meaning of the poppy does not glorify war, quite the opposite but buying the poppy for many is like buying chocolate eggs at Easter. it is just something many people do.

To be fair - James McClean is an utter cnt, poppy nonsense or not. We shouldn't forget that he's a genuine thundercnt.

That said, I do find the mouthiest, wankiest and tub-thumpiest of all poppy nazis -- you know, the dicks that adorn every social media post with a poppy, or fill up their BBS sigs with with Wilfried Owen quotes or jumping gifs of poppies -- are actually the arseholes least likely to donate anything to the RBL.

It's become the sort of virtue signalling from the right they so seem to loathe in others. Completely hi-jacked by cnts like UKIP, the BNP, EDL, FLA, Brexiteers, the Daily Mail. All utter wankers with a manifesto of creating division - the complete antithesis of what the poppy stands for, the words of the WWI poets they bastardise for their soppy fkin Facebook memes, to justify the latest hate crime.

If I were HMG I'd give the RBL receipt machines so there is nowhere to hide for these wankers who use the poppy but don't pony up every year for the poor, genuine suffering sods who's only relief from the trauma of seeing action is putting a bit of plastic and paper together for you all to argue over.

White poppies have been worn as a symbol of remembrace for all who have died in wars for nearly as long as red poppies. I had thought they were a recent thing but I was wrong.
I'm surprised anyone would take sides on this really.

Red for me.

Wear a white one if you want. Or don't wear one at all. I don't care.

I'll remember in my way. You remember in yours.

And why does this thread pop up every year? In my 50 odd years I don't think I've seen more than two people wearing a white poppy.

You're right that it's a superficial understanding but our glorious right wing tabloid press have absolutely conflated poppy-wearing with belligerent militarist "patriotism" for decades now so it's not surprising that quite a few people who find that distasteful no longer wear one.
