Take our best 5 players out and we are no better than Sunderland. This makes me wonder why these players are on such big money when they are championship level players.

Well we have a lot more than 5 players who Sunderland would love to have in their side.

The major worry is, if we go down we will almost certainly end up in Sunderland’s position.

I’m not so sure. Sunderland had one asset and that was Pickford (Defoe obviously left on a free). We could probably get Ł150m for Wilf, Benteke, Sakho, Townsend and Luka. We won’t spend it all but I think we would have a fair amount for reinvestment. I think we would be similiar to when Newcastle went down.

Me too.

There’s no certainty about how we’d get on, ofcourse. But we are just as likely to ‘do a Newcastle’ as we are to ‘do a Sunderland’.

I agree some major assets will be sold, but that’s to be expected and will bring in millions and reduce our wage bill in relation to those top earners.

It is a pity to see such a well supported club with a magnificent stadium and with the potential to be a real force being let to die by the wayside, hard to believe.
Who decent is going to take on that poisoned chalice of a position? no doubt there will be a queue of no hope managers willing and hoping its them.
Surely its now time for a total rebuild possibly a 3/4 year project and maybe they can then get it right, the person i feel who may be able to do it is Aitor Karanka a young manager with Foreign attacking ideas but who sees defence as the main priority to build from initially, and would have learnt from his time at Boro of what is needed to succeed, also importantly is already experienced in the North East culture.
I think they can do a lot worse than AK, lets just say it can't get much worse than what they have experienced for years gone by.

As for Palace, lets not go down that route just as hopefully we will pull clear. But what it does show is even big wealthy clubs like Sunderland can fall heavily if run/managed badly, what is it 11 managers in 9 years? as for Palace 7 managers in 4 years? we must head the warning signs if we are to steer clear.

Not so sure on that one.

Newcastle went down and pretty much retained their squad of players.
Sunderland went down and lost 18 or so, many of whom from their starting 11/matchday 18 and have had to replace quite a few.

One of those would fit us far more likely than the other. 7/8 of our first 11 would be long gone, and whats left already isn't good enough!
