Male Rape in Scottish Rugby Union

Never liked egg chasers - but this is unbelievable

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The Scottish Rugby Union has handed out the heaviest bans in its history over a club’s initiation ceremony after a player was left with internal injuries after reportedly having a bottle inserted into their anus.

Howe of Fife RFC have been given 347 weeks of bans to players, a coach and an official, the longest of which are 84-week suspensions, after an initiation on the team bus following their 71-20 defeat at Jed-Forest.

Governing bodies are looking to clamp down on initiations after reports emerged last month that they are contributing heavily to the loss of more than 10,000 players a year at university level, given that many are put off by the fear of going through initiations.

Two players were arrested after the incident and charged with sexual assault, although the case was settled through an “alternative to prosecution (direct measure)” which ensured it never went to court, with a fine likely to have been paid.

Two official were given 54-week bans each that prevents them “from any involvement in rugby coaching, officiating or administration” for “failing to exercise reasonable and proper control over the players under their supervision”.

Rugby club initiations are notorious and an outlet for some very depraved behaviour indeed. I know of quite a few people who gave up playing rugby because of some of the weird stuff that goes on in them.

Twats like this give most normal rugby clubs and players a bad name.

Perhaps in the past - i think this kind of thing is extremely rare nowadays.
I've played for the last 10 years at several different clubs and not come across anything remotely similar to this.

The safeguarding and H+S rules etc that the RFU hand down to all coaches and club 'staff' at all levels (senior and age groups) is taken pretty seriously. The Scottish RFU might be different.

Can quite believe the numbers on University participation dwindling because of initiation cermonies to be accurate however i'd reckon thats a varsity sports issue rather than one specific to just rugby.

At my Uni (many years ago) the Rugby, Hockey and Lacrosse were the worst for this

Other teams sports like Football and Basketball didn't seem to really have them.

I think you can buy-off the accuser in most countries. I refer you to the late Michael Jackson, and his accuser Jordy Chandler.

Can you be raped by a bottle ? Probably the person inserting it can be charged, if it's without consent. I also think consent now has to be proven, rather than assumed

I once heard a story from a nurse friend of mine, about how surgery was needed on one poor chap who had a fragile bottle inserted (with consent) , which then shattered inside him

Nasty stuff

I don't get it, initiation ceremonies are coercion at best and the guy had internal injuries.
I can't see that as anything other than serious whether the victim says it was with his consent or not. It was also a chance for the state to deter similar behaviour in the future.

Always found some rugby players rather weird and possibly sadistic and latent homosexuals .
Should have charged them rather than struck a deal .

IIRC there was more tomfoolery than just the butt-flushing mentioned by Jaffa.
