This includes an argument is have seen and heard before that the use of an ISA is tax avoidance.
Disagree.
ISAs were introduced to encourage saving.
Similarly, gift aid was introduced to encourage charitable giving.
By using these schemes, I am consistent with the intent of the schemes.
Tax avoidance is when people move outside the intent of taxation legislation, which has clearly been the case with the Jimmy Carr scheme of a few years ago and what appears to be the case with the Mrs Brown's Boys actors in today's news.
If I were in Government, I would introduce legislation that would make it a criminal offence to develop schemes that were tax avoidance schemes.

Isn't it the case now that all tax avoidence schemes have to be approved by HMRC? I personally am more concerned with some of the antics around loading companies up with high interest debt from entities elsewhere within a holding company. The off setting of debt against profit is encouraging bad behaviour but goodness knows how you stop it. Private equity in many cases is seriously damaging.

This is probably a really stupid question, so apologies in advance - would a UK-flagged ship have to pay minimum wage, even if the crewman was not a UK citizen and the boat was in international waters?

Indeed. A wealth creator like him needs every break he can get and I for one am willing to wait as long as it takes for an ambulance for the good of the country. According to Theresa May it's the Lewis's of this world who make the economy thrive so we can actually have an ambulance in the first place!

Underlying all this is the thatcher neo liberal mantra look after yourself, greed is good, you have no duty to others so to hell with them. The greed of these people including our revered queenie is shocking and why we have a virtual social apartheid as the rich distance themselves from what they see as their inferiors. As for those who call for a knighthood for Lewis hamilton , millions deserve an honour more than him.

Talking to my IFA a few years back. The schemes he offered for investment all seemed above board, and I paid the right amount of tax on profits.
The problems start because the tax laws are blurred, in favour of the wealthy.
There are accountants who specialise in tax-efficiency (not tax evasion, though it is pretty much the same thing).
I am self-employed and my accountant has assisted in reducing tax liabilities by re-categorising purchases and out-goings. It saves me marginally more than I pay the accountant.
However, my wage is not huge by any standards. Barely minimum wage some months.

However, when you don't pay VAT on an aeroplane, or you 'invest' in Arms Companies, doesn't that really take the pl55 ?

We could build 10 new hospitals (and staff them), fix all the roads and do lots of good stuff with the 0.1% that have successfully swerved paying tax.

Most top-flight footballers have off-shore companies, most F1 drivers are registered as living in Monaco.

I was watching the BBC drama 'Gunpowder' yesterday and wishing Fawkes and his colleagues been successful

Perhaps we should go back to the days before 2008 and let the banks off the leash, pay massive bonuses, allow the UK banks to make aggressive US sub prime takeovers, borrow hundreds of billions on the international money markets, give out 125% mortgages to first time buyers and have self certificated mortgages? That brought the tax revenues in.

Thstís traditionally how it is done. Buy through a haven somewhere. Lease to the Isle of Man. Then use some form of management company to charter it to the individual. I am probably missing a lease in there somewhere (itís VAT, I know bugger all about VAT)

Couldnít we all buy our cars this way? One company sets up in Belize then does all the leasing, renting and leasing. Then normal folk could save some vat.

Brought in the money to Britain in the short term for public spending. Costing us big time even now though as we pay it all back in lost revenue due to write downs and fines.

Pep Souare no doubt was tended to by the Police, Fire and Ambulance services, and at least initially on the NHS, if not private healthcare using NHS means. I wonder if he has the same tax dodge set up. All take, no give.

Thing is the celebs are small fry, there are giants at this.
