If we're going to buy overachieving championship quality players I'd rather we buy them from the championship where the prices and wages won't be quite so astronomical.

It’s Bournemouth’s third season in the Prem and Arter is still performing to the level of a decent Premier league midfielder: its past the point of being able to consider him an ‘overachieving championship quality player.’ May as well call Harry Kane a 4 season wonder otherwise.

I don't think he will happen especially to Palace as Bournemouth will see us as another relegation candidate, so no favours in helping signing him.
He is a player i do like, his playing attitude for me is just what we need with aggression, drives forward well, and has a never say die attitude which really helps lift teams, ideally we need to reshape the midfield sooner rather than later if we are being honest, but maybe January is not the time for mass changes. Who would i like to see brought in? Harry Arter would give us the energy and drive in midfield, and to complement him the evergreen Steven Davis (Southampton) even at 32 is superb, as a playmaker who knows how to control play with astute passing but also is full of energy, and a real captain in my opinion.
These are players that have the right attitude and would also do an excellent job even if we were relegated and would certainly help into getting us back up.

Yes. The type of player that opposition hate but the home fans love.
Almost every long term successful team will have had one or more players who added real steel. You would know that if you kicked one of their players he would come looking for you. In the 70's Bremner, Charlton & Giles at Leeds. Souness at Liverpool; Roy Keane at Man Utd.
I know Arter is hardly in their league but this type of player is very useful.

I have made no secret of the fact that I detest this guy. A thoroughly nasty bastard and wouldn't be upset to see him get injured. However, if he was to sign for us, I would be delighted. We are too soft and need someone like him. He's not a bad footballer either

An arsehole.

However, we are to nice as a football club. It's partly why we get ****ed by the officials so often. We need to be influencing their decision making. This bastard might be the kind of person we need.

Not enough steel in our midfield, showed again today. He would improve us in that department.

Nasty but good , not certain if he is on his way down though. Davis of Everton would be ideal

I know that people sit at a computer and make suggestions with the best of intentions but until we as fans or the club raise the bar regarding transfers we will always be stuck in the whatsit.

Our failings in Goal keepers, Backs,Strikers and the replacement of departed and ageing players has been so obvious for such a long time!

Sorry but what's the correlation between fans discussing players on a forum and the club signing players?

Not only that but the club has raised the bar in terms of quality of signings in the last 2 years and look where it's got us. I don't know much about Arter other than, like quite a few Bournemouth players, he is a dirty barstard but he is the at the financial level of the sort of players a club like ours should be looking at.

Your first sentence does not make sense ...why else go on a football forum, who do you think that fans are making suggestions for??

Raising the bar is partly about ignoring suggestions about players such as Steven Davis at 32 years of age and Calum Chambers as frequently suggested in the summer.

Failure to raise the bar results in players such as PVA and Schlupp.

How does Arter fall into that category? He’s the best midfielder and one of the best players in a team that finished top 10 last season and will likely finish above us again. Schlupp was essentially a comedy player to Leicester fans and PVA was one of the most hated players of the Sunderland fanbase who can’t defend for toffee besides when Big Sam is his manager.

You said "until we fans or the club raise the bar". My point is that whatever bar the fans may have it makes not a jot of difference to what bar the club has, and if anything the club has raised that bar too high with some of the expensive signings, hence we are now short of money and squad players.

SP even admittedly recently that the transfer policy has been too safe and that we need to take more risks. As for PVA and Schlupp, they were effectively reverse gambles, in that they both had Premier League experience which usually adds £s to the value. Arter would fall into that category but, as others have said, he is not a bit part player but one of Bournemouths best players.

Saying that another midfielder is definitely not a priority, I'd rather offer McArthur and Cabaye new contracts.

I like him. I like Luka and although he is capable of putting the boot in, I feel he lacks aggressiveness that Jedi use to have in the middle.

My only problem with buying Arter would be that we are already well and truly stocked for players in the middle as it is.
