The London Stadium...

So, finally, someone, (Sadiq khan)....has decided that West Ham got too much of a good deal and that this White Elephant mustnít cost the British tax payer £25,000,000 a year any more. Will WHU pay more or will the Mayor pull the rug from under them and try to sell the place?

They could groundshare with Millwall?

One of the most sensible decisions from a mayor for ages. I wonder how they will get out of the contract?

It’s meant to be a water-tight 99 year lease.....Maybe Khan’s got proof some very dirty deals where done in order for WHU to get in there?....it’s all VERY fishy IMO.

I can't believe it cost 300 million to 'convert' it to football use.

The roof must have cost a fair amount, granted, it is vast. But the 'state of the art' retractable seating is little more than scaffold stands, like you see at Gillingham.

And it costs millions to take it down and put it back up again each summer!

Simple answer has to be forget the athletics track now, no amount of running round it is worth the sort of money it takes to expose it each year.

The conversion came in 133 mill over budget AND costs 20 mill a year to run.

Mental.. Wonder what it would have cost us if they kept it for athletics, concerts, and cricket.

reports saying Spurs' plan for the stadium included them fronting pretty much all of the costs as well as the entire cost of conversion.

The stadium should have been designed for multi sports from the beginning. Mayor Khan is no doubt right but huffing and puffing isn't enough. What is he going to do about it?

If Khan tries anything it'll just be overturned in a judicial review. It's just bluster from him.

However, from a public spending point of view, I wonder if the Public Accounts Committee are looking at it.

No doubt few Tory donors were probably handed contracts for it and probably siphoned off a fair bit.

A company property called Delancey which is run by a Tory donor were handed the Olympic Village for half the price it cost the taxpayers to build and have turned it into luxury apartments and made millions.

I think Spurs missed out because they didn't want the running track that would not have looked good on the Olympic Games organisers. If they had never said about the legacy then Spurs may have got it. Instead that had to find a way to keep the track and find a regular use but then gave West Ham a very good and unrealistic deal.

The original purpose post 2012 was to keep the lower tier and just use it for athletics but they realised that was not financially practical.

I went in the summer (and will again next year) for athletics and it's great stadium for that but watching football is not suitable.

A £24M hole to fill every year by the uk tax payer, while the trio running West Ham take a £100M+ a season in PL cash while being charged £2.5M in rent..

it’s been unsustainable from the beginning

2.5 million for the next 90ish years that absolute stinks, not a penny increase in that time!
Inflation would make that seem even more like peanuts.

Imagine what London rent prices will be in say 50 years... got to laugh at this deal. Stinks from top to bottom

West Ham are basically a government funded football club and tax payers are subsidising their private investors to get rich.

Does anyone know if Gold or Sullivan or Brady, directly or indirectly, (or via any of their companies), donated to the Conservative Party recently?
