Harsh for me on Benteke, but Townsend has definitely lost the end of last season verve - question is, who the **** do you replace him with, given the squad we have?

Would love to see the youth (Kai Kai, Lokilo maybe), given a chance, but in this current environment I'm not sure they'd be given the time needed to develop enough to replace.

Not a great game. I thought we edged it in the first half after a poor start. West Brom looked a threat but only because they put every ball towards Kelly and he was dire to begin with. We grew into it in the last 20 mins and looked more dangerous with wilf and benteke especially a big threat.

Second half we didn’t get going and got worse. Poor passing, couldn’t keep posession and offered next to nothing going forward. Ward superb keeping us in it.

To be fair 3 games in 8 days with no depth meant the only changes were enforced by injury. We looked utterly spent in that second half but probably were.

Unbeaten in 4, 5 points this week, two cleans sheets and a win. Off the bottom too. Could be better, not our bests performances of the season either but plenty to be positive about. Need Dann and/or Tomkins back asap!

Jules 8 - a fine performance. Some good stops and did everything expected of him

Ward 9 - motm (again) great all game, some incredible blocks and cleaned up for a terrible performance from Kelly throughout. Really back in form now. Great stuff

Kelly 4 - beaten time and again in the air and on the ground. Got a few tackles in but tackled himself first half, lost everything in the air and if it wasn’t for ward would have cost us at least three goals. Just not a premiership player. He’s slow, doesn’t jump and gives his man a yard far to often

Sakho 8 - he was good today. No silly shit, well less and solid. We got a bit of beast mode for a few minutes when West Brom threw everything at us and he blocked them all

Schlupp 6 - good first half. Looked a little slow for a fast guy second. Gave his man a yard to get a cross in or shot away a couple of times when he really should have been blocking. Might have been shattered like the rest mind

Luka 6 - defending ok but faded badly as you’d expect. A few sloppy passes and caught in posession again. Not the same player as last season on the ball.

Jimmy 7 - all energy display. Real box to box, back being a nussaisnce defensively and busting a gut to get forward when we had the ball

Townsend 5 - poor from him today. Corners ok but otherwise rarely a threat. Poor touch, couldn’t beat a man, gave the ball away with poor passes. Could well be spent of course. 3games in 8 days and he doesn’t stop running

Ruben 6 - strong and good runs at times. Offered less defensively than he should but when he did get the ball he looked a threat without quite finding the final ball.

Zaha 7 - a huge threat first half. Final ball lacking again but still our biggest threat. Faded, well didn’t see the ball second

Benteke 7 - could have scored with a better header first half but otherwise was excellent. Good control, skills and passing. Well timed runs for crosses nearly paid off. Second half faded and was literally given nothing

Sako not on long

Joel ward MOTM for the second game in a row. Brilliant to see.

Speroni faultless in goal unless you're going to be really anal and pick holes in his kicking. He still cleared his lines, he just can't twat it as aimlessly far as Hennessey.

Thought Wilf and Benteke looked great in the first half but were completely ineffective in the second. Townsend and RLC gave the ball away too much. Luka and Jimmy did OK but Luka absolutely bottled a challenge in the 93rd minute on the touchline which could've cost us if they had any quality.

Point was a fair result, but can't help thinking it's a missed chance given how many opportunities we fashioned in the first half.

Still, two clean sheets away from home and off the bottom (up two places in fact!). Very good week.

One thing in defence of Towsend is his dead balls are more useful than Cabaye's. He does hit a few more awful ones, but Cabaye's are consistently off the mark while Townsend gets it right from time to time.

Schlupp was in a lot of trouble against Rondon in the first half, largely cause he was getting caught one on one. It was probably Townsend's job to protect him there so yeah...

Zaha had a good 10 mins at the end of the frost half, apart from that anonymous.

Kelly wasn't great on the first half but didn't deserve singled out. Second half he was fine.

Ward was great, loved his rugby tackle.

Benteke looks like half a good player. I really hope he finds the other half soon

A good point on the road.

Good stuff from Ward and Jules.

Not sure Wilf is fit, suspect he is carrying a knock.

Kelly improved for 20 mins in the second half and as soon as I said he looked better he went to shit again. After that..

His airshot of a Clarence led to ward getting in one of his last ditch tackles

Rondons near header Kelly was marking him and didn’t jump. Ward covering just did enough

He let Rodriquez though for his one on one

Terrible player

To be honest all our front 3 - Wilf, Benteke and Townsend are confidence players and a bit streaky (Wilf arguably a bit less so). To dig out a point twice in a week, away from home when none of them have delivered is not bad.

When you consider Kelly probably did not expect to play and we did not concede 4 really is very harsh. He did the job in my view

He was horrible. He got away with it due ward, Sakho and jules

Gifted them chances and I fail to see why he would be forgiven for not expecting to play? He was in the match day squad

Disagree. Not good, but not shocking either. Did well to bail out Sakho at one point in the first half.

I hate saying it but we are way less an attacking threat when Benteke is in the side. His presence seems to completely inhibit the threat of Wilf and Andros. It might help if they played on their natural sides as well. Ward and Sakho were our best two players by a mile today.

3 games in 8 days for essentially the same 11 (except those injured during the last two games), inlcuding an away derby and away to a team of thugs. You could tell it was a pullis team, fit, strong and with some good defence. But we're nbeaten in four with six points and two clean sheets. Not bad at all.

Again the lack of depth in our squad is evident. Sako being our best option off the bench is an indictment of our recent recruitment. I get we had some injuries but there are no viable attacking alternatives in our squad. Is Lee injured?

Ward obviously MOM. All I read on here is how he can't attack, has no pace etc. He's a defender first and he continues to defend very well which is why TFM can't get in the team. He never gets injured and never takes it easy during the game. He also has the same number of assists as Townsend in front of him. Ward, Sakho, Schlupp and Tomkins are the making of a good defence (with a better GK).

The rest of the team? Sakho was good again. We just about managed without Cabaye. Zaha tried to win it on his own in lieu of any of his team mates being capable of doing so, but I can't be bothered to criticise a team that has worked hard in getting out of the hole they dug for themselves earlier in the season. If only the likes of Lee, Mutch, wickham, PVA and Sako could contribute.
