Joel Ward limited? Not likely. 200 games and more in the EPL than any other player under every manager we've had says he's a top professional and the best £400k we've spent.

I know we didn't score but two clean sheets in a row (both away from home) is worth noting, particularly since we were missing Dann, Tomkins and Cabaye

I am confident the goals will come.

Only saw the last 25minutes of the the first half and I thought we looked by far and away the better side, but by the sounds of things that was our best spell.

Criminal that Ward has not got a new contract, so easily MOM today. Andros is trying but just seems to have lost his touch. Having read about the travel and hotel problems compounded by the illness and last minute injuries no wonder we were a little out of spirits. One excellent save from Jules, Schlupp looking better, Sakho decent, Kelly doing well considering lack of action, Luka being Luka, Jimmy OK and Benteke had a 5 minute spell where he looked like he did last year. Wilf good in parts but at his best as an out and out winger. Ruben very odd in that he seems unfit when you see his lack of tackling back and reluctance to go through himself. Crap game but great to be off the bottom of the table. We just might click next Saturday.

Come on he's been great for us and can do the job but he definitely is limited by his speed and general forward play. In a solid back Four though he is fine.

Not everyone but ...
Ward - thought he was doing a great job even before the three blocks.
Midfield- there was often a space in front of MacArthur that he could have taken the ball into to break WBís defensive shape. Luka did this a little more.
RLC - I think heís more skilful than he thinks. He could afford to run at the box occasionally. Also turned away with the ball several times when he could have released Wilf hunting around the edge of the box like Long does. I actually wonder if he lacks confidence.
Andros- just so many misplaced passes.
Wilf - created more work for the defence than anyone. He sometimes stopped and seemed to want to skill them out from standing (while 10 defenders got back). He had an off day compared to a Wilf performance but he forced last ditch tackles in the area (whether they were penalty shouts or not I donít know) and got in some good positions to run on to s through ball that didnít come.
Benteke- very frustrating but worked harder as the match progressed.

Thought Rondon worked hard for them. And their CBs solid.

Ward was excellent. Is it just me or does RLC seem to casual and has a lack of urgency in the final third he really frustrates me.
Thought schlupp was decent in first half but poor in second
Sakho quality
Kelly poor
Luka is a red card waiting to happen
Mcarthur is very limited

We were too narrow out wingers have been poor lately as theyíre not playing.,..on the wing!
Other than that great week two clean sheets away from home, four points from next two and we will be able to go to Leicester and Swansea with confidence ahead if two very hard games over Christmas
Think that would put us On more points on Christmas Day than we had last year?

Joel man of the match for me, two goal saving tackles!

We look a bit clueless in the final third, if it's not a cross from the bi line then we don't really know how to break down a defence.

Very strong defensive display yet again. Ward was my man of the match followed by Sakho, Schlupp and Jules. Going forward yet again we didn't look like scoring. I understand that Roy wants to play 4-4-2 and this keeps us very organised at the back but attacking wise it limits us to playing in straight lines and really doesn't exploit our strengths. But it seems to be working and if we can confinue to grind the points out then I guess there isn't much to argue about.

It is a great result. 5 points this week is amazing considering where we were a few weeks ago. We should all be very proud!

We'd have lost that with Hennessey in goal. Speroni must start, until a replacement is brought.

Why would we have lost that with Wayne? I mean if we are just making random assumptions then we would have lost against Stoke and Brighton without him so Hennessey must start until a replacement is brought.

It's not only that it's been 3 games in 8 days, but also the fact that he rarely substitutes anyone - and when he does, it's often so close to the end that the player coming off has still played virtually the whole match. In such circumstances, I'm not surprised that a lot of players were looking tired towards the end.

Given the circumstances, 5 points in the week is a very acceptable return. But when some more players come back from injury, Roy must consider making more use of his bench, or some players wont last out the season

Ward MoM followed by Sahko and Luka. Benteke looked fitter, but Wilf and Andros pretty much ineffective. Good point.

Personally I thought it was a very poor game with 2 very poor teams. It is ironic that we have played so poorly recently and yet picked up points.

Defence:
Ward was quite rightly recognised as MOM because a number of very good late blocks, plus a fabulous rugby tackle on Rondon (I think). I would also give credit to Kelly. Yes he occasionally went missing but he is one of our better bench players and they were very physical upfront so as our 4th choice centre back pressed into action, I thought he did well.
Jules too. Hennessey was slated to play but was apparently injured in the warm up so Jules stepped up. Bit of a worry as we then had no reserve keeper on the bench. Some great shot stopping and he tried to come for crosses. He did miss the odd one but he equally won a few and this was a big, well drilled Pulis team which many teams struggle to handle at set pieces.
Schlup was under the cosh. Unlike in recent games he had players out wide who were keen to take him on. WBA realise he was weak and pumped a lot of balls out onto that flank. Fortunately he has real pace so managed to dig himself out of a lot of trouble but he could not stop a lot of crosses.
Sakho was very strong and won a lot aerially. He often played good passes out of defence but equally had the odd worrying moment of madness where they so nearly were let in.

Midfield:
RLC was good on the ball even if things often did not work out. He also tried a lot harder to do his defensive duties.
Jimmy Mac put in a real shift going forward and defensively.
Luca was very strong and battled hard.

Forwards:
Wilf was quiet. Some good runs and good crosses but we have come to expect more. He also had 2 x good penalty shouts which, being at the wrong end of the pitch, was hard to be definitive about. Looking forward to seeing it on MOTD.
Andros had a game to forget. Either his control or passing were usually off and he looked jaded.
Benteke is certainly getting better after his injury. He often had 2 players marking him from goal kicks out so struggled especially as they were very physical. However, when it was one on one he invariably won the flick ons. He also deserved credit for carving out a wonderful chance for himself which Foster apparently tipped over.

I wanted 3 points but at the end of the game was delighted with the draw and know Roy will be pleased with the clean sheet.

Of interest were comments on West Midlands (phone in show) radio on the way home.
- The WBA fans thought they were only a new striker away from being a good team. (!)
- They were also shocked how Benteke has seemingly gone backwards from being the Villa player they loved to hate but secretly were really worried about.
- They also thought Roy had us very well drilled defensively.
Finally Pardew's post match comments made them out to be all over us which was somewhat one eyed.

I thought we were poor but so were they. WBA had taken 2 points from their previous possible 18 and it is not hard to see why.

RLC seems to be carrying a shoulder injury... the last few games he is constantly rubbing it, rotating it. I seem to remember he fell awkward against either West Ham or Everton and got treatment for it.

Hope it's not another Clinton's shoulder.

Oh... and I thought it was one of his better games.
