It’d be fair to judge him as a bit of a knob in that case. But not as a bad player.

Mandanda was nowhere near as good as expected. That really doesn't mean that every keeper we ever sign is also going to be rubbish and not as good as Wayne Hennessey, the two points are completely unrelated. Staggering that OG needs this to be pointed out.

People are far too quick to remember the bad and forget the good on here. Certain posters need to realise there are no perfect footballers, especially at the level we're working at. Mandanda was as good as we could've hoped for and clearly had the potential to be a success, but as usual select BBSers have marked him out as 'shit'.

It's the equivalent of going to the same restaurant eight times in a year, having one average experience and immediately logging on to TripAdvisor to rate the place one star. Some people are just never happy.
He was rubbish in a Palace shirt and no better than Speroni or WH

We all know neither of them are good enough to be a no 1 keeper, and he proved exactly the same

Is 9 games behind a Pardew defence in a new league really enough to prove anything? Might be a total bellend if he threw his toys out the pram and didn’t want to play but it’s of no relevance to his playing ability which wasn’t subject to enough time on the pitch to be properly judged.

Indeed
I have zero interest in how good anybody was for any other club.
I am only interested in what I see with my own palace addled eyes.
And Mandanda was a shite fest.

If any one had taken the trouble to watch Mandanda before signing you have seen his tendency to punch balls that should have been caught and not always clear to safety.

Not that it matters now, he was overweight with us and not so good at parlez vous Croydon....plus we do not have as many palm trees as Marseille .

And another bites the dust

Mandanda’s career, before and since Palace at club and international level show how good he really is.
So apart from misrepresenting one of my posts again......

Was he as good as you expected him to be?

An International GK with CL experience and a good age in an area we need significant improvement in. If he's keen, we should certainly pursue. The most obvious restricting factor at the moment is our league position. Making sure we're at least in touching distance of 17th is going to be vital going into January in attracting quality players.

Another alternative might be Nick Pope at Burnley who is currently filling in for the injured Heaton. He has done a fantastic job and at 25 is only going to improve. Not sure what Heaton's return date is, so timing might be a restricting factor for us on that one.

No expected return date yet i don't think and likely to be several months after a dislocated shoulder. Outfield players will come back and wear a protective strapping, goalkeeper cannot do that. Might not be back till after window shuts.

Our league position won't affect too much if it is a loan with commitment to buy in summer or if we go for a player like Ronnow.

Possibly. I think he might be the best of the three had he come but might have been seen as a longer term back up. We need 2 keepers in my the end of August.

Staggering that we have not been able to sign a clear number one keeper. Before homesick Steve there was England's' next No 1 keeper from QPR for £3million plus or don't you remember that? Trap being displaced by a 'kid' does not fill you with much hope that he will be good enough.

Areola is a very highly rated keeper who played practically a whole season on loan at Villarreal (32 of 38 games, plus the fact he played 70 games over two seasons on loan at Lens and Bastia too) two years ago so not like they just decided to pluck any old kid out the youth set up and chuck him in. He's also 24 so hardly a kid.

But no you're right I know **** all about Goalkeeping or any Goalkeepers around the world.
Agree with the last sentence 100% - now go back to the one thing you are clearly good at
