To be honest even our weaker team is still filled with players who have got ample Premier League experience. As long as we are playing the Under 23 team against Man. City and fringe players then that is fine with me.

Hennessey in goal, Souare making his return, Jairo and TFM in Defensive Midfield, Sako, Lee, Mutch etc. can all play.

Just don't start throwing the kids in against them, the confidence knock could be massive for them being on the end of another 5-0 defeat.

I think we should rest players against MC.

The fixtures have been kind in a way - if we had Swansea and WBA together, it'd be much harder to select the team for those two games. Having one of the games against the best team in the league gives us the opportunity to rest and not be too upset about it. No match is a write off in this league, but we have to try and be pragmatic with our survival (over the chance to give MC a black eye).

No chance, we would get hammered.

Let's hope we're not relying on our goal difference come the end of the season!

We would also get fined for fielding this team.

You think we would get fined for fielding this team?! They are all squad team players some of them playing a few games this season.

Good entertainment for the viewing public!

May surprise a few people with our display?

Don't forget that we don't need to stick to the named squad during January.

How do you get fined for playing people who are registered in your squad?

We also must play our strongest team in the FA Cup at Brighton.
You cannot be fined, you have a squad of 25 players - you are allowed to use them, very simple reason - fatigue!

This is v similar to the discussion we had last year about the match v Arsenal. Had we rested some for that, we would have had more energy against Swansea a few days later, when wed looked knackered.
SA admitted it had been a mistake on his part to put out our best available team against Arsenal.
RH has already moaned about the stupid fixture arrangement, so I expect him to rest some of our players for Southampton.

Sam admitted he got it wrong last year in picking the team he did for Arsenal when we had three matches in eight days. This year we have three matches in five days! There is no way we can afford to play anything even close to resembling our first 11 against City.

Stranger things have happened, beat Man City lose to Southampton.

Its annoying me have all the international breaks and then have a pileup of fixtures while people probably have other plans aswell.

Can you explain the link between fatigue and wages?

Pathetic argument isnt it.

And its not just about the physical fatigue of playing in this league, it can also be the knocks and strains that could do with a few days rest.

All of which can mean Hodgson has to decide whether to play a first team player who is 70% fit, or a squad player who is 95% fit. And he has to make this decision not just on a match by match basis, but also looking ahead and considering the strengths/weaknesses of the teams in this run.

Im sure the respective salaries of the different players has zero impact on his thought process.

Spurs are a very good team, they played well against Man City, and still got hammered.

Focus on Arsenal and Southampton, but mix the team up for the Man City game please. Something like

Hennessey
Fossu Mensah (if fit)
Kelly
Dann
PVA
McArthur
Riedewald
Puncheon
Schlupp
Townsend
Sako

That team will probably get drilled but even if we included Zaha and co, I doubt the outcome would be much different.

and herein lies the issue with this approach.

it's Christmas. Two ways to look at this. Firstly it's when miracles happen or secondly its a time to be generous.

Playing a weakened team means no chance of the first but a distinct possibility of the second.

Going sat v Swansea thurs v arsenal. Tues 2nd v soton. Monday 8th v Brighton and 13th v Burnley is a good enough gap with the fixtures. Play anyone for Man City and move on if u get fined u get fined but ultimately we need to play the percentages and this would give us a chance in all matches other than city which we would more than likely lose anyway.
