We can't stop the media in all its forms creating so called stories out of nothing.

Don't see much likelihood of us selling a fare ticket to BFS

Just roll with the punches the real fun and games hasn't started yet!!!

I like Tomkins, a very composed centre back.

We should do all we can to keep him but £20m is a lot of money for someone so injury prone. Everton is a big club and he is far more likely to receive a call up there than he is at Palace. World cup year.

I don't believe that any of Ake, Dunk, Tarkowski, Keane, Williams, Zanka, Lascelles, Zouma, Wimmer, Mawson, Kaboul, Dawson, Evans and Fonte are signifcantly better than Tomkins, if indeed they are better at all.

Flint is decent and i wouldnít say Tomkins is blessed with pace but gets by ok.

Just a few ( handful) of the above could be described as “better” IMO. Tomkins is a very accomplished defender. I think he’s actually our best defender. I love sakho, he’s a maverick and can be incredible but he’s not as reliable.

Helpful exercise though. It’s confirmed for me that he’s top ten in premier league.

I thought Everton were looking to go to the next level. Surely they should be after that fella with the big hair at Chelsea?

Keane and Lascelles are probably the only two youíve stated as not being better than Tomkins that are IMO - wanted us to buy Lascelles when Newcastle got relegated.

Kolasinac plays wing back, so donít think itís right to include him. I also donít think Jones and Smalling are that great, ditto Klavan and Reid. Iíd also make a case for Tomkins being better than Rudiger and Sanchez as well - at least right now in terms of playing in this division, but both will likely be better once theyíve fully adapted.

Not including the obvious, Stones, Alderweirald etc from the non top clubs from that list, better than Tomkins are Keane, Ake, Lascelles and Evans
On par is Tarkwoski, Zouma, Mawson
He is better than the rest.

Lascelles is a top player. Ben Mee is also arguably one of the best CBs in the land currently.

Nathan Ake was outstanding against us, won't be long before he's playing for a top club I reckon. Bournemouth signed him for £20m. There's a sentence I bet you thought you'd never hear.

Wow...a classic case of 'if they don't currently play for a top 4 club, they can't be very good'. Ake is quality, Tomkins isn't in his league. Dunk has been immense for Brighton this year (with the exception of the own goals), Tarkowski has been one of the leagues stand out defenders this year, Keane was last year...and so on.

Just goes to show how biased us fans can be. I can almost guarantee the clubs of the above players wouldn't want to swap those mentioned for James Tomkins.

I've not noticed Ake being outstanding. Bournemouth leak a lot, and Ake gets beaten in the air fairly easily.
