Are you saying ALL refs SHOULD get abuse as a matter of course?

OR, this:

Do referees deserve to receive abuse?

The ref at Leicester away gave us two decisions, but then wimped out of a blatant penalty when Benteke was hacked down, that is the problem they put context into their decisions, then need to judge every event individually. He was probably worried of being called biased or gathering abuse from giving decisions in out favour even though they were all just.

I agree.......and the winner is ... Wayne Rooney.

I think they probably do get a bit too much abuse on the whole, but I think back to John Moss' performance in the first game of the season, and that leaves me feeling more, shall we say, ambivalent.

They make some terrible decisions, granted. And so some of them are plain shocking.

But.....imagine getting coated off like that at work, and your wife and kids also get to hear it if they are there, can’t be nice....

That was a bit of an odd one.

I know it shouldn't make a difference, but I think the fact that not one single player appealed to the referee subconsciously caused doubt in the ref's mind as to what he saw.

It would be interesting to see some sort of heat map of where the majority of decisions given in favour of Palace are over the course of a season.

Theoretically, I would assume we get more free kicks and penalties when attacking the Holmesdale.as the hostility towards the ref is far greater and fear overtakes his decision making,.just like in the old days at Anfield and Old Trafford (before all seated stadiums made them become less intimidating) where penalties were given for challenges that were not even close to the box.

There is no doubt in my mind, after nearly 50 years of going to games, refs and officials naturally gravitate their decisions in favour of where they feel safer in making a call, so having several thousand people hurling abuse at them very clearly clouds their judgement just as much as not wanting to jeopardise their careers by making calls against the bigger sides who we can all be sure are favoured by key people at the FA thus affecting the ref in question’s future career.

This is the big worry with the redevelopment of the Main Stand. Unless we can make sure we have four or five thousand of our more vocal fans in the seats closest to the pitch, we will lose the fear factor, such as it is, because of the more docile, thermos flask bearing types in the Main Stand - or the newbie types with their half and half scarves and exotic accents who offer little or no resistance to errant officials.

Offering no abuse to match officials simply hands them carte blanche to ruin the game in favour of Palace’s opposition.

What people have to realise is that the modern day referee is very probably descended from the last remnants of the Nazi Party, the ones that escaped punishment at the Nuremberg Trials and we should not appease them in any way.
