That the standard of football is far inferior by a ridiculous amount?

Should be an easy job for him.

That said he is a twat though. And I agree a women coach or someone in the women's game would be better suited.

If your x-th choice is a coup, just imagine how good the first half dozen choices must have been

Anyway, there's nothing on his CV suggesting any genuine experience as a head coach. Not even of the reserve team or U21ís. You can't walk into the top job for a national team with absolutely no experience in any half-comparable position ever and imagine that you'd be overqualified.

That is probably the worst comparison you can give - if a standard of football is not as good are you saying that that means that anyone can coach it because it is unimportant? Does the fact that England are ranked 3rd in the world mean nothing. And why will it be easy? You need to actually be a coach to coach ,no matter what the standard of the players are and the England women are not bad players it is just that physically they do not perform to the same standard as men, they do show considerable amounts of skill and probably more application than a lot of the men.

He has no experience in womens football or in coaching to any great extent. It is a joke appointment perhaps explained by the fact they could not actually get anyone else to do it.

Yes.

The U-17's are World Champions. If he took over there, no one would bat an eye lid.

Slightly unrelated, but didn't the Aussie Womens team get trounced by an Under 15's side?

Do you want an actual list of people more qualified for this role than Phil Neville?

How long is the list allowed to be?

You have failed to give any reason why that is the case other than he personally has played football better than them. That is not a valid reason. If it were then FDB should have bren a great manager for us or Edgar Davids for Barnet and neither Ferguson or Wenger would be particulrly good managers at all.

Would you use the same argument for a mens side - is any ex-player who was able to play at a higher level than the team he is managing a "great appointment"

No i didn't. Why are you deliberately excluding that i mentioned his coaching credentials at Valencia, Manchester United and the England U21's?

I'll say it again, had he taken on the role of the England U17's, a vastly superior side, nobody would have been remotely interested.

You're putting too much emphasis on Neville's credentials and not enough on how poor England's women's team (and women's football in general) are. Just because the game is in the gutter, doesn't mean the search for a manger needs to be too.

ALL managers need to start somewhere. You don't get much lower than Women's football.
