Just because Pardew screwed up against Burnley and Swansea last season, and BFS popularised this phrase in an early interview, we seem to think our many draws this season we should have easily won are a good thing.

It’s a vapid cliche. Even the club are getting players to tweet it. It’s meaningless.

We must stop trotting out “respect the point” as though it’s a positive.

Get my point?
Add Swansea away to that and West Ham should be on there twice.

In Hodgsons interview he wasn't respecting the point he said he knew we had to be winning some.

Sorry but this is a myth. Never happens like this. We usually end up picking up a win or two against top sides that balances out the failures against relegation rivals. We never get no points from playing all the top 6.

Some truth I guess. Important to not let teams around us win but really there's no excuse for not winning today, I think some use it to keep up the superfan thing. We are a midtable EPL club in our 5th season here, it's ok to be disappointed by a point now and then

Very true, although I thought we were good value against Saints actually. Not as much of a smash & grab as the other two, particularly Watford.

It’s the reframing what should be disappointment as a positive that’s a double kick in the teeth.

No way we should be drawing that today.

But given we ballsed it up, we should just say so, not dress it up as a positive and glibly say “respect the point” like it’s somehow satisfactory.

Newcastle respected the point today - settling for one rather than risk it in a game you might easily lose. Unlike we did at Burnley and Swansea last season.

We didn’t respect the point today. But some tw*ta are retrospectively painting it as a good result with this cr*p cliche.

A points ok but not when you are 3 points clear of the bottom three with Everton, Spurs, Man Utd and Chelsea to come.

No, don't get your point. Had nothing to do with today. Today was 2 pts dropped but it's meant for shit games we would have lost under Pardew. We never used to draw but big Sam and now Roy have installed in us the ability to pick up points eg West Ham where we would have lost. Think about it mate
