Surely Lumeka has to make the bench now. Been scoring regularly and got in some great positions against Burnley

If only there was a period in the season you could rectify problems like that!

This 11 would probably better suit this though.

Hennessey

TFM -- Tomkins -- Sakho -- PVA

Milivojevic -- Riedewald

Townsend -- Cabaye -- Macca

Benteke

The latter leaves room for PVA to move forward when given the chance but keeps us solid. Would allow Andros/Yo/Macca to put pressure on them when we don't have the ball and join Benteke in turns when attacking. Sitting deep as we started against Newcastle is a bad idea.[/QUOTE]

Much as I hate Macca wide rather than central, this is probably our best available team. My only doubt would be the more solid Ward for TFM

I知 torn. Sticking to 442 will see most of the squad know thier roles, be solid etc and not change to much but.. so much of our play goes through wilf I知 not sure we値l create much. That would see sorloth and benteke upfront with Jimmy going right wing and Townsend left for me. Get early crosses into the big lads without all the cutting back they壇 have on the wrong sides

Keep it tight, break and cross. Loads of height with set pieces.. we need the corners from the second half against Newcastle, not the first half and we can nick a few points from the next 4

Alternatively, or at different times in the game 433

A nice way to look at our predicament is to compare the team we may have to put out with Burnley... They have got where they are by organisation, teamwork - and most importantly players other than strikers scoring goals... while conceding v few. Surely we can try to emulate.

for me same team and formation that we finished with against Newcastle 4-5-1

hvaing a central midfield 3 of cabaye, luke and Jimmy mac makes us solid down the middle and gives jimmy mac and Johan the freddom to get forward and move around a bit less rigid. it also means that both wilf and andros are on the winds, their best positions. Id keep TFM in hes had decent games recently and his speed is a great asset in getting back to recover open space.

Yes

And then what do we do if one of our midfielders is injured, or is simply knackered in a match?

Clearly the main issue is providing the width in attack. Obviously Townsend could do it on either side, the problem is finding the solution on the other wing.

CYL is not a convincing answer. Jimmy proved again last time that he is far more effective inside and Lumeka or Lokilo would be one hell of a gamble.

I would be unfair to expect Sorloth make his debut in anything but a striking role, either pair him up front with Benteke or use him as required off the bench. Round pegs in round holes, please.

One option is using the ever reliable, versatile Ward at left back allowing PVA to move forward......

-------------------Hennessey---------------------------

TFM--------Tomkins--------Sakho-----------Ward

----------------Luka------------Cabaye

Townsend-------------Jimmy------------------PVA

------------------Benteke/Sorloth----------------

Fitting in Sorloth and Benteke up front together is much more difficult. The width would probably have to come from our fullbacks pushing on, and our defence would need more protection, with Townsend or Jimmy perhaps being sacrificed for a more defensive player like Riedewald.

Thought about that. Plus Jach can apparently play left back to.

We are limited in options though and the good News we have at the moment is that our back four is fit. Until we have zaha back we need to do a Burnley as someone else said and build on our strength.

覧覧覧覧覧Wayne覧覧覧覧
Ward覧覧-Tomkins覧Sakho覧覧Pva

Is an excellent back line. I think we need to keep that together now they are back and keep solid. Yes we will be creating less, we will miss a bit of width on whatever side Townsend isn稚 on but we will be much more solid. With sorloth, benteke, Sakho, Tomkins we have a lot of height and will be a bigger threat at set pieces and when we do get crosses in. These next four were always snatch and grab so keeping it tight is the order of the day. Playing defenders out of position isn稚 going to help that

We have a decent chunk of our first team available. I'd argue that nine of those that will likely start at the weekend are first choice in their positions. Injuries in two key positions and no cover, but if these nine stay fit and have two weeks off to recover, things don't look too bleak. Or am I kidding myself?

-----------Hennessey
TFM -- Tomkins -- Sakho -- PVA
Andros - Luka - Cabaye - Injury
-------Benteke - Injury

We are so much better 4-5-1 with Mcarthur central. PvA is very good going forwarding and has a good delivery on him.

Benteke to work his tits off and Sorloth to come on to replace him.
This this this ^ All day long our best team and formation now.

We are so much better 4-5-1 with Mcarthur central. PvA is very good going forwarding and has a good delivery on him.

Benteke to work his tits off and Sorloth to come on to replace him.
Yep, that's it for me too.

I agree that the game Saturday was crying out for Sorloth to come on for the last 15-20 minutes and was frankly surprised that he was not introduced to the action, but maybe the issue was more who to take off?

Given he likes the 4-4-2 and Sorloth is the only other player we have resembling an attacking player/striker then anything else is effectively a formation change away from 4-4-2 to on of the many permutations around a 4-5-1. That is tempting for many of us but Roy likes his 4-4-2.
Crikey i did not realise WZ was so badly injured, i just assumed it was just a minor one with just a few day resting needed and back on duty. Oh dear we are now well and truly in the S**T especially as he would have been the one match winner we have crucially in the next Five tough games coming up.
This injury makes our shambolic transfer dealings even more bizarre, to have not foreseen the need for proper cover to call on at this vital period was a massive gamble, which we hope does not backfire.
