Back post at corners

Our defending of the back post at corners is diabolical. There's no-one on the back post. There's no-one to head it away in the six-yard box at the back stick. We have conceded twice in the last 2 games because of this. Gaping holes. 4 more points if we had someone performing this basic function. With Sorloth and Benteke to help out the defenders we shouldn't be conceding from corners. Simple as that. I'd put Sorloth defending the near post (where Benteke is currently), Benteke defending the far post. And maybe someone like PVA on the back post. Hope they have a look at it in training. It's not good enough.

Back post should ALWAYS be covered by a defender.

Well, maybe Sakho should be there when he's back. Not marking someone who might go to the far stick, but actually stationed there. At the moment there's just space and if they get it over Benteke at the near post we look all over the place.

On the subject of corners, I thought Luka's were a vast improvement on Cabaye's. Had real zip and in-swing into the center of the goal. None of that floaty nonsense.

Agree with that. Very good corners, I hope Roy noticed.

That first corner he stuck in caused them all sorts of problems. Over the front man and it landed in the middle of the six yard box like a grenade with the pin out. Unlucky not to get a foot on it in time and bundle it into the net.

We've also been done a few times at near post corners as well, so reckon its a case of brushing up on all our set piece defending, not just the backpost routines.

The Hen should have been there...no more than a foot or two beyond the six yard box with plenty of time to sort out the flight of the ball. Indecisive and poor decision making, but he also did make a couple of excellent saves to keep us in the match.

Since Roy's arrival we have left both post unprotected. I have lost count of the number of goals we would have likely prevented covering them. I dont understand that andnor do i understand pulling everyone back tobdefend corners. At least Roy doesn't do that. I would also have a player out wide on the opposite side when we have a corner.

Yep. But Cabaye will be taking them again on his return.

His decision making is poor and is the reason we concede so many goals from set pieces. Yesterday there were more than one examples. I was unableto go yesterday but from highlights we were very lucky only to lose 1 0. Having said that the Hen should have stopped it. If he had been his usual flappy self and not got a hand tto it it may have been cleared off line. However it is possible he was carrying an injury/not fully fit. But it's hard to tell

Been like this for a few seasons now, Cabaye and Puncheon floating a ball over for either the first man to head away or the keeper to catch. So predictable.

Not 100% sure but I think the last corner we scored from was Luka's: Tomkins v Arsenal. Happy to be corrected though.

Protecting the front post is important because the GK will usually cover the back post and is vulnerable to corners diverted toward goal by an opponent in the vicinity of the 6 yard box

We all know that Cabaye and Townsend are useless at corners and that our defenders lose the players they should be marking when the opposition takes them. The attention to this in training seems to be the problem.

This has been going on since February, and we will continue to concede until it is rectified. If we had a guy on the back post Bournemouth don't score that equaliser.

Since the hen should've been there (which I disagree with) but wasn't, is exactly why we need someone on the back post. Not sakho tho, I'd go with jimmy Mac.
