All SP’s work, blowing bulk of transfer spending on an injured centre half for a Soho photo shoot and going into first half of season with one forward is comical planning.

Plus I suppose what looks like our planning for the championship signings in Jan.

He has to take all the blame. He swallowed Pardew's bullshit for far too long, rather than listen to the fans who could see he was destroying the club.

The reality is would be many factors but my top three would be:

- the Board for their stupidity in not bringing in reinforcements in the summer and especially January
- injuries, but these would have been partially mitigated with a balanced squad (though no one could have foreseen quite how bad the injuries have been)
- Benteke - two goals all season is truly abysmal, not to mention that idiotic penalty debacle

FDB doesn't escape given he wasted the summer and set us back badly.

My overriding view though is that we're a championship club trying to play catch up in terms of infrastructure etc and it may have finally caught us up. There are only so many times we can pull off the great escape. I really hoped we would learn the lessons of last season this summer but in virtually all respects our planning has been even worse. This relegation - if it happens - would hurt more than most given it should be avoided.

Agree with all of that. The transfer windows were farcical.
And you're right IF we go down there will be a real sense of we did it to ourselves.

Leaders (Parish) have to take responsibility, that’s one of the attributes that make good leaders (apparently)

That's why it will be harder to take. I've accepted most previous relegations as we weren't good enough - apart from when we lost to Arsenal on the final day with Wright scoring. The charlton one was a kick in the nuts but I didn't think we were good enough then. But this season will be entirely self inflicted.

Surprised Benteke hasn't got more votes. If he had been just half a decent striker this season, quarter even, we'd probably have four or five more points and well on the way to survive.

In order of how they’ve directly affected our ability to compete/win games:
1) Injuries - How many games have we not had an important player in one part of the pitch missing?
2) Benteke - Not good enough from a nearly 30 mill striker. Countless misses that would’ve turned draws into wins/losses into draws.
3) Parish - shocking transfer policy (bordering on negligent) but nevertheless we have a solid mid table 15/16 players. So unfortunate that 12 are out at once and we’ve had key players missing for long spells throughout the season.

1/ Too reliant on Zaha

2/ Needed forward keeper and decent back up for Zaha

3/ Obsession with getting big name signings paying too much and on excessive wages - better scouting needed .

4/ Injuries - but we seem to had this problem for 2 seasons

Pardew. It strangled the Club's progression. The FA Cup run was a poision chalice. The players got to the Final in spite of Pardew. It might explain the drastic difference in league and cup results.

Arguably this is Parish's fault because he had the power to change Pardew earlier. The problem though was the cup run for Parish to jettison Pardew then I guess.

Pardew was four managers ago. That's like blaming the great-great-grandparents of Piers Morgan for how he turned out.
