Yeah it was sort of what i meant really. The majority of the crowd appear sick to the back teeth of Benteke's efforts, so it doesn't take long for the moaning and groaning to start the minute he does something half arsed. A spell on the bench will at least negate that.....well until Wayne flaps at one that is.

Felt to me like the belief had gone in the crowd. Like you say, I got the impression most people were expecting a hammering and saw very little chance of a goal. Thought it picked up a few times when our players got going, but it seemed on the whole as if people had largely given up. Sad times - and so different from the Selhurst of 2014.

For a player that has been given poor service he has missed a fair few gilt edged chances. For 30m plus those wages you'd like to think he might conjure up a couple of goals out of nowhere but he can't even tuck away a tap in at the minute. As a kid you used to dream of being clean through, especially if you are striker, but the minute he gets in that position he goes wider and wider before being closed down or slicing into the side netting.

Correct. With no service he has done well to be where he is in this list, which he is clear leader of per minute on the pitch

For me Schlupp and PVA are better and I would not want to ruin the young lads confidence after a decent first game.

Bear in mind Salah has scored over 30 whilst missing 19 clear cut chances, benteke 2 whilst missing 18.

This is more accurate than people will ever admit to, because hating Benteke has become one of the things to do in this awful season. Don't get me wrong, the guy has missed a lot of good chances, he could and should be quite easily in double figures. But for some reason, the goal against Chelsea last season aside, he seems to be awful with his feet. On his day, he is one of the best headers in the league, but the guy is so devoid of confidence he never seems to have that day anymore. He almost seems to panic that he is going to mess up, so takes an extra touch that then sees him mess up.

So yes, he is deserving of criticism for his failings. BUT at the same time, the point above is valid. There seems to be a lack of understanding that our strikers struggle to score because we never support them. We play one up top, but never a player just off their shoulder. We kind of tried it with Wilf, but he really has no positional clue how to play that role and his natural instinct is to go wide, so he was never anywhere near Benteke. Benteke gets slated for lack of movement, running etc. But the guy wins a very high percentage of the headers played up to him. The problem is, we never put anyone near him to challenge for the knockdowns. Some games he is lazy, some games he actually works very hard, but is so isolated that he looks like he hasn't done anything, when actually it is others letting him down. Wickham gets criticised when he plays, because he suffers the same isolation, but once again that is overlooked. Pretty much all of Wickham's goals were created by himself, only the semi final goal was a cross I believe. Gayle is a good finisher, but struggled in our team because he couldn't lead the line alone, especially so isolated.

Just watch our games until the end of the season and look at how many crosses we put in. Then look at how many are actually aimed at Benteke's strength, his head. Most are chest height at best. Same went for when Wickham played. Look at how many men we actually commit into the opposition box, because it isn't many. The amount of times Wilf would cut a ball back into the box, with only two targets at best among 5-6 defenders. Even our set pieces are poor because Cabs is so awful at them, that not just Benteke, but the likes of Tomkins and Dann(when he was fit) are starved of headed chances. We seriously lack an accurate creator. Yannick could beat 4 players and get to the box, but his final poor was often so poor. Wilf can beat a load of players, tear into the box, but the final pass just doesn't find anyone. Townsend can run and run, beat players, but rarely finds his man in the box. Look at Arsenal at home, 3-2, dying seconds, wilf beats players, cuts into the box, both Benteke and Sako unmarked at the back post, ready to almost tap it in, and the ball goes straight to a defender.

Yes, Benteke has had an awful season, but we have to look at the bigger picture, not just one man. Also, I saw someone compare him stats wise to Salah. But the fact is, players like salah, they get more than one chance a game, probably two or three great chances. Benteke gets one most of the time, because we create so little. Look at the season we came up, we won so many penalties that Murray was able to miss one in more than one game and still walk away with a couple of goals because we were creating chances and at times getting more than one pen a game.
Factually he has missed the 2nd most chances in the league and that is just one part of his game that's lacking. He also lacks workrate/anticipation in my opinion.

I might have to put that as my signature as the amount of BS about lack of service to defend Benteke is getting ridiculous now.

I'm afraid with Benteke playing in the form he's in, it's a free hit to United, in the truest sense of the word. We need to be able to defend from the front, we wont with someone who will jog around for 90mins pretending to be trying.

No, and he shouldn't be dropped either.

People who think Murray is better forget that GM is playing with 2 very pacy wingers, and a genuine no10. Benteke on the other hand has very little quality coming into the box, and no-one making runs off him; there's no pace on the wing and no No10! Zaha, and to a lesser extent RLC being unavailable, means there's even less pace around him, which means it's even easier for the opposition and less space. I actually think he should just drop deeper, and let Sorloth run further forward. And if Schlupp is fit he has to play. We need to inject some pace into the side in the absence of Zaha.

It's not a myth. We don't have a No10. Zaha can only cross along the ground. Schlupp, TFM and Ward can't cross so we have very little coming from full-back. Cabaye can't take free-kicks even though he thinks he can. The only decent balls into the box come from PVA (when he's able to get forward) and Townsend (when he's not greedily cutting in to shoot from 25 yards).

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The one thing that’s impressed me about Roy is he does see things as they are. So it’s just a matter of time. Plus the way al shearer highlighted his ineptitude on last weeks motd will def not helped ben10

You are wrong. He's missed more chances than anyone else in the league. He's missed one sitter per game on average. He's a poor striker with a questionable attitude - doesn't do anywhere near enough to support the team. Murray is keeping Brighton up with his goals and all round game - yet our apparently superior striker can barely be arsed most games. And the biggest problem of all is that Benteke just isn't very good anymore. He's lost it.

I think more importantly Salah can afford to miss as Liverpool create loads of chances for loads of players Benteke 18 missed chance prob is most of our clear cut chances as a team.

Haven't seen anything from Benteke this season to suggest he is worth a place in the team . No ability , no desire , no goals . Not only should he be dropped we should be looking to offload in the summer ,take what we can get for him and put it down to a very expensive mistake .

Of course a hat-trick on Monday night and all will be forgiven , COYP
