Hennessey 4- not in any way shape or form a premier league keeper
PVA-6 looked good going forward but the amount of times he let Lingard overlap him because he was dragged in the middle was madness and United kept overloading us
Kelly-5 Championship footballer who can do a job
Tomkins-6 you can see that he's technically very good but his mental attributes let him down
Wan-Bisaka-8 phenomenal performance
Townsend-7- you know exactly what you get and it works or it doesnt
Luka-7- thought we saw a lot more of Luka today and was pleased
McArthur-7- Wiley and professional display
Schlupp-7- really good performance consider he was rushed back
Benteke-7- great work for the goal and really put a shift in, still utterly frustraiting
Sorloth-6.5- not ready for the PL at all, but does a job, nowhere near fit

Fragility mentally let us down and when United realised we were brittle and just piled bodies forward we couldn't cope. Squad is far too thin, Parish has made an absolute hash of recruitment and we're left with tired, fragile players who have to play so far above themselves to match a team like United that they are gassed by 70 minutes.

Roy needed to make the sub 10 minutes earlier.

resigned to relegation now

Given the injury list I thought the tactics were spot on until the United double sub, and we played very well first half against a below par United. The ability to bring on Rashford, Mata and Shaw shows that the odds were heavily stacked in their favour as the game went on, and it was the first goal for Smalling that was our undoing. Their other two goals were a result of us running out of juice, and that's the difference at the moment with so many injuries, together with a lack of luck in general. Maybe Hodgson should have brought Riedewald on earlier, but the quality of our bench is just not good enough to rely on against top quality opposition.

Hennessey - 4 - inspires no confidence at all, and apart from his one on one save early on was a gibbering wreck throughout tonight

Wan-Bissaka - 7.5 - very impressive couple of games from the young man, particularly so tonight. Great positioning, tracking and tackling, being pedantic, one of a few who could have done better on the second goal.

Van Aanholt - 7 - great finish for the goal, and decent performance at the back, many times holding his own in one on ones. Should have done much better for Lukaku's goal however.

Tomkins - 6 - generally good as ever tonight, but uncharacteristic shocking mistake for Smalling's goal which started their comeback.

Kelly - 6.5 - not too bad on his comeback, gave away some silly fouls.

Luka - 6.5 - held things together well against quality opponents in the middle. Will be kicking himself for not closing down Matic, but probably did not have the energy.

McArthur - 6 - ran himself into the ground as usual and nearly got in a position to score in second half.

Schlupp - 6 - quick thinking to assist for PVA goal, and good to see him back which gives us much better balance in the absence of Zaha. Faded as the game went on which is to be expected

Townsend - 7 - great player when he displays this much energy. Fortunate with the deflection, but at least he wants to have a shot. Our most threatening player.

Sorloth - 6 - tries hard and keen to run with the ball, which is good. Big step up for him and obviously needs time, but yet to see whether he has the quality required. A good start in my opinion.

Benteke - 6.5 - better tonight, and got in many good positions without quite having the conviction to score. Great defensively. We need more of this from him.

Riedewald - didn't affect the game

Hodgson - 6.5 - got it right for the most part, just doesn't have the bench currently to change things too much, but could possibly have changed it when Mata and Shaw came on as we were running out of steam fairly obviously at that point.

The ending of these last two games are incredibly demoralising, but hopefully we can take the positives out of tonight's performance against top opposition and move forward. If we can get more players back by the Huddersfield game, and keep the levels of performance going, we have enough to stay up, but we need to turn the tide of results by that game, which is absolutely crucial.
Excellent summary.

AWB looks class and was my MOM.

I'm so so gutted I can't speak. Please can we have a huge slice of good fortune against Chelski, we so deserve it.

Huddersfield is so crucial - so hope Zaha is fit for that.

Expected so little tonight but that was cruel

AWB - fantatic tackles, looks assured, got up the pitch a few times and looks to take players on. He's fast too, Man utd put Rashford on the left to see if they could expose him and I thought AWB matched him. All young players suffer a dip in form, particarly once they start playing each week and until they get used to the physical and mental demands of the PL, so we should anticipate this with AWB but he certainly looks good enough.

I thought everyone played well, except Hennessey. A few poor errors and a bit of bad luck did for us. However there was also some luck to Townsends goal and a fair amont of quality by our lot.

I'm not sure who Hodgson could have bought on after Riedewald (due to 1. Injuries and 2. recruitment). A sub might have broken the play up a bit but when organisation and focus are so important in playing one of the big teams who's to say that a sub wouldn't have had a negative effect? We'll never know.

I'm not too worried by our predicament. Play like this and we'll get points. Probably enough to stay up. Get Cabaye back and we have options in midfield. Get Sakho on the pitch and we'll be harder to beat. Get Zaha back and we start winning games again.

And then, in the Summer, FFS LETS GET SOME GOALKEEPERS.

AWB was easily MOTM.

Luka, if i'm being harsh, should have got closer to Matic to stop the shot. Didn't close him down.

The Lukaku goal was stupid to concede. He had so much time to score....

Sorloth is not ready to play these type of games. He's been thrown in the deep end and expected to do the job of an experienced striker.

Benteke was ok. Set up Townsend, almost scored but for a world class save from De Gea.

Good to see Schlupp back.

We aren't using subs and yet we looked knackered in the last 10 minutes.

AWB was phenomenal.

Was in front of me in the second half - made so many last ditch tackles and looked so good going forward.

Could be at RB to stay

Such a good game tonight. Our players looked absolutely gutted while Man U celebrated their winner.

As someone who's a bit anti-Zaha on the quiet, I found his absence really refreshing tonight. Parts of the game half reminded me of the first days of Alan Smith post-Coppell after relegation in '93. There was no baggage, no egos in the team. It just felt fresh.

The only shite player was Hennesey everyone else was a 6 to a 7.5.

If we had Sakho, Cabaye, and Zaha coming off the bench we win that game tonight.

In the immediate aftermath I was so down-mainly as I hate Man U, and it feels like we came so close to winning.

Positives:

Still only 3 points off 13th.

Southampton have 3 home games out of 9 left including Man City, Chelsea and rivals Bournemouth.

WBA are down.

If our injured players can start the last 8 plus no more injuries I think we can get 11 points to take us to 38 and safety.

We played well against the team that will finish 2nd and would have won with our injured players.

Benteke, Townsend and Van Aanholt had their best games for a while.

Schlupp and Kelly are back.

Huge effort from the boys.

Thought Schlupp, Townsend, Tomkins, Luka, AWB and PVa were fantastic.

I'm so pleased we went for it. We tried to cause them problems and it nearly paid off.

One thing of note: I thought our tackling was very good tonight, way above normal standards. We fought for the ball and frequently won it back.

Please Zaha is busting a gut to get back bleeds red and blue ... and probably would have won us the game on the break.
