Players in January are signed for immediate impact ala Dann, Ledley, Sahko. These two are real head scratchers, epic fail of a window from Freedman and Parish

You take Sorloth off go to five across the middle. Switch Andros to the left Rakip as a body to help congest the pitch out to the right. Replace Schlupp with Jairo earlier.

I know people on here weren’t keen but i was surprised we didn’t sign Ben Watson on a short cheap deal. He’s the kind of experienced pro that could have come off the bench to shore things up.

Same with Rakip. Good reports from the training ground, but hardly the ideal time to bring him in is it ?
We need to have (yet more) patience.
I would agree if they were signed in the summer.

January signings need to make more of an instant impact to be considered a success.

Rakip is on loan. So it's not as if we will play him next season. Surely if he was any good he could have a run for 5 minutes!

If we Sign Rakip for the reported £10m fee how will that be good business when we could have got him for free 3 days earlier than we signed him on loan?

Benfica registered him on January 19th and we loaned him on January 22nd.

FWIW I think they might be ones for the future but as has been said we need players now.

There is no point in Freedman if we judge him on the evidence of January. But maybe he came up with good options but the board failed to sign them...

That is a very valid point you raise about why we did not sign Rakip on a FREE before Benfica stepped in. But even more baffling for me is, we sign Him and Jach and yet 6 weeks later they have still not figured for a team that has been riddled with injuries.
What we needed was ready made First team starters brought in during the January window as opposed to purchases for the future, only time will tell if the right decison was made or Not.

They were bought as cheap options to fill a squad with a view that if one of them impresses in training then jackpot/U23s then jackpot.

Also means that if we get relegated, we have 1 if not 2 players that should be able to cut it prior to our mass exodus.

When you look at all the long term financial commitments that we have signed up to since promotion - Fryers, Campbell, Mutch, Lee, Campana, Grandin, Kebe, Hunt etc. I can see why they wouldn't risk signing a bloke on a 3 or 4 year contract if he quickly turns out to be Championship standard.

Think we’ve an option to buy the lad from Sweden and have you seen how many are out of contract in summer. We needed to sign them anyway imo.

My thoughts are they were bought for the future and thank god we are doing that spending 2m on a defensive prospect rather than 15m for a player who has had one good season. The mistake was not in purchasing these two, but not strengthening the team. I feel we should separate the two otherwise we will see people labeling the players as being 'not good enough' when they were never bought with the intention of being played this season.

Considering Rakip hasn't even got on the pitch yet I'd say it's very unlikely we'll be shelling out £10m for him in the summer.

Jach may well be one for the future but loaning a player who isn't deemed good enough/ready to play is bizarre.

Fine, separate them. But if that's the case, the chairman, the board and the recruitment team failed the manager spectacularly in the January window. Anyone might think Parish has intentionally pissed off Roy, so that he walks at the end of the season.

The future? He is 24 years old and a Polish international.

He couldn't make the bench ahead of Damien Delaney.

Clearly not someone Roy was after, and the way he and Rakip have been treated, appears that Roy is making a point to the Board.

I feel for the 2 players signed. To not be involved despite this huge injury crisis says it all.

Yep.

I guess the upside of the Rakip thing is if we'd have got in ahead of Benfica he could be on a 5 year deal now on juicy wages. If he's never going to make it, we might have dodged a Mutch-shaped bullet.

this. as far as i'm concerned we signed one player in jan, which is quite frankly unforgivable
